Just been going through the GW website and came across this:

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1180096_Space_Marines_Datasheet_-_Land_Raider_Ares.pdf

I've got to make one of these! I've got the vindicator parts in my bitsbox; I've just got to figure out the best way to fit the dozer blade
That GW datasheet page is actually really interesting, and I'm glad they don't make you buy a big book with them in; I just wish they were all on there, like the fabled Thunderfire cannon strategem datasheet.

Nice Land raider.
But why flamers, again?
Cant they see the need of an inferno cannon?

Target locked,ready to fire

Yet again whoever designs new land raider patterns has no idea how to play the game.. the ares, that horrible whirlwind one and the promethesus are all garbage

Ordnance on a tank with FOUR weapons ISNT USEFUL .. Yet the same mistake keeps happening

Even worse is ordnance barrage on a 250 pt tank.. or wow 4 TL HBs.. Its supposed to be a command tank yet has NO command tank abilities and loses its hull mounted weapon for a comm unit with no mention in the rules..

LRC or bust!

Ehh? The Promethius is awesome, I have one and I love to see Ork players cry when I tell them I have 12 twin-linked HB shots; or I can move 12 inches and still get 6 TL HB shots Plus the advanced comms let you re-roll one reserve roll per turn (though I will be building one in the future with no advanced comms but with a hull mounted TL HB)

Besides, with POTMS surely you can shoot the demolisher cannon whenever as there is nothing in the rules saying that the POTMS doesn't affect barrage weapons

Prometheus is an awesome tank, I have one for my Space Wolves.. Been using it for a few years now.
As an aside, the Ares is a 4th Ed tank that was designed by a player/staffer and is not official GW.

It was more of an idea with fluff attached.. If I could afford to waste the kits, I'd build one for the fun of it.

Well its on the GW website now with a datasheet, so as far as I'm concerned it's official

Prometheus is *passable* but its not better than a crusader is the point :p The other point is its a command tank with no command tank abilities. The reason it does not have a turret weapon is because it has a comm relay.. again it has no rules for such a comm relay. It fills the same role as a crusader, yet has less transport capacity for some odd reason despite also having less weapons

Its also more expensive than a crusader. Yes its not totally worthless like the hyperios (remembered the name) or the ares but its still not a crusader

If the prometheus had any command tank abilities I would give it a thumbs up but whoever designed it forgot about the entire reason it exists

Not anymore, but the Prometheus used to come with Improved Comms just like the Damocles.

It does have command tank abilities, see below I will admit though that I would prefer a TL assault cannon.

Except those are the old rules.. Hence my issue with the tank. FW released a FREE IA2 update on their webpage that updates all the vehicles to 5th ed

Land raider promtheus
Special rules - Power of the machine spirit, assault vehicle

That is it..

Like I said, whoever designs the newer pattern land raiders dont put enough thought into the process

I want all Assault Cannons / AutoCannons. Give me two TL Assault Cannon Sponsons and a Flak 2-TL Autocannon on a Land Raider. And a pintle mounted multi-melta. yeah, that sounds good . . . .

Wait - scratch that. I want a Flak 2-TL Assault Cannon turret with TL Auto Cannon Sponsons. <drool>

Yeah but I'm sure that must have been a mistake, otherwise as you say you are losing troop space for some pretty lights and dials.
I'm sorely tempted now to remove the comms bit from mine and put in the TL assault cannons from my old crusader....

New rules for the Promethius!

Battle Auspex: The Prometheus has the Night Vision special rule,
and reduces any enemy cover saves by -1 (i.e. 4+ becomes 5+ etc)
against attacks from the Prometheus.
