Everyone makes mistakes, but sometimes those mistakes border on retardation. We have all had those moments, misunderstood rules. Incorrect army points.

What are some of your biggests DOH!!! moments in playing 40k.

One of mine would have to be and we have all done it, completely forgetting I had a 10 man TH and SS unit off board ready to deepstrike in. Went the whole game us playing a Great game evenly matched, then it was over and I was like wait I never rolled for my Terminators.

DOH!!!

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Man i feel for you i have definatly done that before and infact i left out 10 chaos terminators and a squad of demons to be summoned when finally on turn five my cousin says hey why dont you deep strike and summon those models! ahhhhhhhhhhh.

I went to ground with marbo in the open, thinking "hes in cover, he'll survive this shooting no worries"

14 ork boyz killed him with sluggas and stood around with a "but... we waz gunna charge 'im, boss" look on their faces

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I just had one :-/

4-game tournament, in the third game I didn't here the "15-minute" call, so I thought we had another turn. I jumped my suits off of the objective they were contesting, planning to move them back in next turn. But there was no next turn :-(

That's how you snatch a loss from the jaws of a tie/win, friends!!

For the first few games with orks was measuring all movement from back of base to front and losing 2" (including run) of movement a turn.

I kunningly blocked a unit of spikey-boyz from reaching an objective with my (scratch-built, quite long) trukk! haha, safe!
So he blew it up. No problem, still counts as difficult and dangerous! Safe!
So I decided to charge his squad with a lone deff-kopta ...
They kill it before it gets to strike, and consolidate 6" across the trukk, in reach of the objective!
Ooops! If I'd just zoomed the kopta away, I'd have won! :(

I refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

Having my Hive Tyrant charged by an Ork WB and his mob of MA Nobs. That did not go too well for me.

at the 'ardboyz prelims, I put 2 land raiders 2.5 " apart so that my enemy couldnt squeeze troops between them to get to the last objective.

I forgot that he could move within 1" of a vehicle when assaulting... so he squeezed between the raiders by assaulting them with his plaguebearers, even though they could do no damage. he then sat on the objective. with 3 plague bearers.

of course, I thought it was no problem, because I then had 8 grey knights charge them... but they whiffed out badly over the next 2 assault phases, killed NONE of the plague bearers, and thus he won the match (0-0 objectives, he had more KP's) and thus I was shafted from 2nd place to 5th place.

Biggest mistake...

probably thinking making a IG sentinel army with 16 sentinel is a good idea.

then whine and cry when 9 of them is gone by 1 turn of bolter fire .

and similar story when facing an armor company IG ...
basilisk / LR battle cannon etc etc , sentinels all gone by turn 2...

My biggest mistake (which i do every now and then) would be... Starting my movement phase, move my first unit and start shooting with it right away. And then remembering that i was supposed to move rest of the army too.
Usually i'm allowed to undo the shooting and move my army. Yay for friendly opponents.

If I take an IC attached to a squad I ALWAY forget to put them on the table when the squad gets out of the transport.

A friend of mine made a mistake with his space marines that is probably going to be hard to top - he took them to a WHFB tournament....

I decided to run two units of Ork boyz that were protected by a big Mek with a KFF, and they got strung out. Next turn, they got shot down like dogs by two units of bladestorming Dire Avenger units, and less than half of them were protected. From then on, you can be sure they stayed in a tight clump, and my enemies have come to hate the KFF.

You do know by the rules of the kff as long as one member of a unit is within the distance the whole unit gets the save?

I was playing against my friend and his orks and on one turn he forgot to move his squad of 20 boyz. When his next turn came around I despondently said "Oh no here comes the Shokk Gun" that had been pounding our team the whole game. My friend gets excited and commences shooting the gun once again forgetting to move his boyz.

I felt bad but these guys are cut throat Magic players and if the same thing happened in that game no one would allow a redo.

My doh moment came when playing another friend whom I know doesn't cheat. We were using some one elses dice and my friend kept rolling great leadership tests. Later I wanted to keep track of the turn 4 and picked up one of the die he used to Ld and couldn't find the number. Only 2's and 6's.

Other than a trick die, what else would a die like that be used for?

Hehe... this coming from a chaos SM army and a daemon army.. When I first started playing with daemons I would continually forget to roll for summoning... even with my 'thirster... I kept thinking. Dang.. I thought this army would do better... not realizing that half my army was sitting on the sidelines... hehe Still do that sometimes.. especially if the battle is heated, or a HUGE apocalypse game.

Or, this one isn't mine.. Thank God... I introduced 40k to a good friend of mine.. and we went to our local GW store (in Lynnwood, WA).. he had brought in a 2 liter of Coke... and right AFTER the manager told him he needed to keep the lid on his drink he knocks it over and literally watches it pour all over their nice, neat gaming table.. and all over the 2 guys' armies in the process... man oh man, he got his A$$ chewed out for it.. got kicked out of the store, and almost me too (for bringing him I guess) It was nearly 3 months before he stepped foot back in the store. But he never made that mistake again...

Peace,

Had 3 tac squads packed around a Predator Annihilator. My opponent destroyed and detonated the Annihilator and all 30 marines were inside the explosion as the explosion radius rolled a full 6 inches. My opponent had great dice and about 20 marines got wounded. I managed to save most thanks to power armor. But it was a situation that I never put my marines in again.

Too often, when I deepstrike spore mines and they explode, I "continue" shooting.

Also, I cannot guess/eyeball/estimate range.
At all.
I have lost table quarters I had models near (read: I thought they were in but was blatantly wrong), messed up assaults because of mistaken range decisions, and _once_ got an (completely unhurt) assault carifex killed to ID because the backup synapse was a good 14" away (my opponent was able to drop its primary synapse in the shooting phase).
