For a while ive liked the concept of 40k transformer models ( 40k vehicles that transform into robot forms ) and so ive finally decided to indulge my nerdy desires and start designing hopefully 12 models 40k Autobot style models Land raider- Optimus prime, painted in Crimson Fist scheme Predator- Ultra magnus, painted in ultramarine scheme (see what i did there?) Rhino- Bumblebee, painted in Imperial Fists scheme Leman russ- Ironhide, painted in a DKoK scheme Exorcist- Wheeljack, painted in a Order of The Sacred Rose scheme Hammerhead- Powerglide (Thanks for correcting me H.B.M.C), painted in a Fal'Shia scheme Fire prism- Skyfire, painted in an Aringhe scheme 40k Decepticon style models Monolith- Megatron, painted standard necron black and steel Ork trukk, warbikes and buggies- Devastator (anyone familiar with transformers will know what i mean), different colours for each vehicle Ork FightaBomma- Starscream, painted silver silver Chaos defiler- Bonecrusher, painted in the Krypt Keepers paintscheme Ravager- Skywarp, painted standard DE purple Carnifex- Bombshell, will be painted in a splinter fleet of HF behemoth's scheme (purple carapace and the rest black) So good dakkites i come to you requesting opinions, idea's, critisism and worship For those interested my Zork blog will hopefully get started next week by the way, i get paid friday so ill be buying the final supplies needed for my first unit on the weekend .

You said the same when i first conceived the zorks... tis a good sign about my level of awesome

yes that model was a big inspiration in my desire to build a fully transforming 40k model
WarMonger33 wrote:Monolith Megatron

well im starting with Megatron since the monolith boxy shape and lack of many features seems to be quite forgiving for the novice 40kformer modeller
i guess from there ill just do whichever model strikes my fancy
i really want to do a valkyrire transformer at some point too but for now ill just stick to the list i have

First things first im going to be drawing alot of designs for the joints and other transforming mechanisms
its rather complex art you see and i wont have the large influx of money needed for MegaCron ( TM thomas joynson 12/8/2009 www.dakkadakka.com) until november anyway :L so these buggers are a while off yet.
Until then feel free to suggest things and offer paint job idea's (the rhino HAS to be imperial fists ) and get your weekly hit of corpsesarefun based talent on my Zork blog, a zombie ork army lead by necromancer grots!
You simply cant make this up folks! oh wait... i did

LoL I would love to see your drawings and so on, they will be really interesting to see the concepts that will be used or not in some cases.
Colour schemes, I would just suggest following the actual colours of the Transformers themselves, unless you want the closest possible 40k scheme ?

well optimus will either be ultramarines or crimson fists (blue and red), bumble bee will be IF cos he is yellow, ironhide will be black so i need to find a black IG paintscheme somewhere, not sure of wheeljacks colours and the same applies to skyfire and windcharger.
MegaCron will be painted in standard necron black and silver (same as megatron) with a giant crystal in his chest somehow , devastator will be a variety of colours as he is in transformers (different colour for each vehicle) starscream will be silver as in the movie as i dont like his normal scheme, bonecrusher i dont know the scheme of and skywarp is standard DE purple anyway.
so in answer to your question im doing both really

Fluffwise, it would be very amusing to build what appeared to be a Marine/IG army but then transformed to show it was really a disguised Chaos robot army.
If these models will actually move to demonstrate their transformation, that will indeed be a whole lot of work.

Whipped these off over the last couple years, prolly gonna do Sunstreaker/Sideswipe next as paired Falcons.. Jetfire, BB and Grimlock are workable, Megatron less so, Prime as a Land Raider is too Obvious not to do, but I've been hung up for a long time on doing it, because I'd want to do a matching Ultra Magnus as a T-hawk transporter/Raider Pair..

To be honest with windcharger and Skyfire i chose them for the names
if anyone has better ideas for which transformer for the models then feel free to say suggest them, as well as any idea's on how the hell a Nid 40kformer could work.

Take a look at the Beast Wars stuff for Ideas.. Waspinator, Blackarcana, etc...
Oh, Ravage/Ravager...
on a more practical note.. I half thought about building up Grimlock, but in the end decided not to, given my limited budget and time... but I did get as far as realizing that some of the mid sized gundam kits, (esp the early series) would make for good parts, particularly the hips/thighs arms and feet... other than that I'd sugggest building your parts, then recasting any complex ones so they're solid resin blocks that won't come apart at the joins when the figures are transformed..
One building posibility is to make them up, so that they can be taken apart, and put together in robot and vehicle modes, rather then fussing over an actual tranformation sequence.. My Megatron design in particular would amost have to work that way, mostly to allow one to compress the core down to torso size, and get the risers to the back...
Second idea, is to look at some designs that came out between Beast Wars and Armada, where they practically become "shell-formers" there's a core robot who's half folded up, and then the car parts are articulated shells that fold away to expose the robot inside...

I would rather have them physically transform but if i cannot i will try your method of deconstruction
although your casting of difficult parts and gundam kit peices are VERY good idea's and i shall have to use them
nid transformer is already done though, H.B.M.C beat you too it

So I saw, I mostly making the suggestion to look at how they'd engineered the Beast Wars insects and others where you had a organic outside over the robot inside...

I'd vote for keeping the Imperials as the Autobots, and everyone else being Decepticons.
I can see Starscream as an Eldar Falcon, Thundercracker as a Wave Serpent and Skywarp as the Fire Prism.
