How many of you guys are world travelers? Is our dear Dakka community a bunch of isolationists or are we individuals filled with wanderlust? Me, personally, I love to travel, and I have been all over North America, something like 30 states, Canada and Mexico, both numerous times. I have also been to Europe three times, but I chose to spend most of my time in the UK, followed by Germany. I love Europe and am trying desperately to move there! I would love to go to Asia, as well as Egypt, South Africa, Chile and Argentina. What about y'all?

Forever alone

Sadly, no. The only place I've been outside of Tasmania is New Zealand (once every few years), and the mainland of Australia (to change planes so I can go to NZ). Saddening, really... I haven't even been to the Gold Coast.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

While I love the fact that you have traveled so much, I am amazed that you found Mexico twice and in Asia! Lol, I am gonna call that a post/travel fail.

From England. Living in Shanghai

I haven't travelled as much as the above, but I did a fair bit when I was younger.

USA (Houston, Texas)
France (mostly in Calais doing beer runs but once to Paris)
Belgium
Greece (Rhodes and Crete)
China (Shanghai, Hangzhou, Hainan)
Hong Kong (for a visa)

I personally would like to see more of China. Having lived here for over 4 years I feel I haven't seen enough of the place.

Looking for games in Shanghai? Send a PM

I’ve been through Europe twice, once as a kid going through the UK, France and Italy. The second time I backpacked through Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.

I’ve backpacked through China and India as well. If people were paying attention to those kinds of things, I made a few posts to Dakka when I was India, so the little flag would have been different for me during May and June of this year.

I've also stopped over in a bunch of places, Singapore, UAE, Hong Kong, but wandering around town for a night before catching an early flight doesn't really count.

I think I’d like to go to the US next, though some friends are talking about South America…

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

South America is sweet. I've been through Buenos Aires, Quito, and Mar Del Plata. Good times, though you definitely need to keep your head on. Between Brazil and Ecuador, I prefer Ecuador, but that may be due to the fact that Ecuador is my best friend's home nation.

As far as where else I've been:

Australia
England
Spain
Germany
Singapore
South Korea
Japan
France
Sweden
Estonia
Russia
Egypt
Turkey
Cyprus
and currently planing a trip to India/Pakistan/Afghanistan to visit friends.

Edit: I've only been to 5 states. Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan.

I've stayed in the States mostly. The southeast and along the U.S./Mexico border out to Arizona. I was about 1/2 mile from Mexico, does that count?

Having been to Mexico, it's likely both safer and better.

I work for an international travel company. We provide the tours that travel agents book for people. Like where there's 30 old people on a bus roaming around italy.

I went on 1 (free!) tour to Greece in Feb 2006 with my company. Other than that, that was my first and last time so far ever leaving the US.

As far as the US goes, I drove from Philly to Los Angeles and back again 2 years later. It was nice to see the country I guess, but I doubt I'd ever do a drive like that again, and I'm not really a fan of flying. I'm a fatty and the seats are too damn small!

A lot of business travel is less fun than people think.

"And what is wrong with their life? What on earth is less reprehensible than the life of the Levovs?"
- American Pastoral, Philip Roth

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.
