Some WIP pics of my new Chaos Lord. He's gonna depict my Dark Apostle in my Word Bearers army.
He's missing his shoulderguards but they are in the mail as we speak.
What do you all think so far ??
Comments and tips are very welcome.

Nice conversions. Simple, but effective.
And I hate to nitpick, but Word Bearers don't exist anymore, remember? There's only one kind of Chaos Marine now: the Chaos kind.
I know, I'm bitter about it too.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

He's just gonna count as a Chaos Lord with Daemon Weapon, but I thought it would be nice to add a hint of background in the model.

I agree with all of this.
I love the mix of bits in this, very effective and resourceful. Can't wait to see this puppy painted.

Fantastic !!!
What shoulder pads are you using ... the original WB metal ones from GW ?
I really like the torch/mace combo. Is the caged flame from the Empire Flagellents?
Great job !!
And who better to keep the memory of the Chaos Legions burning than a Word Bearer ??

Hehe, thx for al the nice remarks guys.
The torch is from the new warhammer forest kit.
The shoulderpads will be normal clean terminator shoulder pads which will be enlarged with some o.2 mm plasticard and get WB iconograpy sculpted on. Although I might scim Ebay a bit to find some WB shoulderpads.

Are those mock purity seals on him? Is he taking a jab at the loyalists with that? It seems your Lord has a subtle sense of humor. Don't see that very often in a Word Bearers army
Love the sculpting though. Looks really good

Bless the gods for impurity seals. I wouldnt normally do them on CSM but a Dark Apostle seems to be the guy who would wear parchment rags inscribed with the words of lorgar.

I'd love to know why you think there is no longer a word bearer's legion or why you think the other legions are gone. There is an entire army recommendation section for them and every other legion (iron warriors, alpha legion, night lords, world eaters, death guard, thousand sons, emperor's children, and black legion) in the 5th edition codex. You may not be able to get any special benefit out of playing an army painted in that scheme but they didn't stop existing in the game. Also, the chaos space marine army that you can build with any of the chaos codex's options is the black legion not "the chaos kind". Just as the space marine chapter that can be built using any and all of the options from the space marine codex is an ultramarines chapter army.

I was talking about the rules.
Ever read the previous Chaos codex? There were rules for the Alpha Legion, Death Guard, Emperor's Children, Iron Warriors, Night Lords, Thousand Sons, Word Bearers, and World Eaters.

I know there were rules, that was a major point of my post. That even though you cannot get any special benefit from taking the army in 5th edition (ie as you could in 3.0-3.5) that does not mean the army doesnt exist. The word exist is a bit of a stretch when you mean "doesnt have rules for". You can still field a word bearer's chaos marine army and as I said GW even recommends you do so. If any mention of them was removed from the codex in both rules, fluff, and paint schemes I might think they had cut them out of the game, but that isnt true.
I don't like that they took out the legion rules, if you read librarium forums every other post I make is about how I can't wait for the legion codex to come out(and many on dakka forums), or for GW to get off their butts and release a downloadable codex that updates our legion rules. I think it is completely ridiculous that space marines have 4 offshoot chapters that each have their own codex and none of the other races have a single book like that in this latest edition. Releasing these space marine codexes before updating other codexes that haven't seen an update since 3rd edition is a slap in the face to veteran players and I hope it bites them in the ass.
