Personally i would love to see genestealer cults on the battlefield. Too bad i never got to fight any :( They do sound like very interesting group.
About lost and the damned i dont know anything else than it used to be an army that lost GWs support, right?

Damn right! They should be an integral part of a Chaos army. Besides the obvious fun in making them from parts of kits that you would never consider combining for any other reason. For inspiration, read H.P. Lovecraft, especially 'Shadows over Innsmouth'. You can practically smell the fish-people!

It's real difficult to vote against Genestealer Cults as they were great fun in 2nd Ed when they actually had a list, but I have to vote for LatD. They are the army that makes the most sense for 40K - humanity fights humanity more than they fight anyone else. There needs to be a renegade human faction in the game that isn't just 'Counts As' Guard, so as good as Genestealer Hybrids are, we need Lost & The Damned.

Anyhow, I'll back Chaos Guard because we need more Chaos Codices.

I seem to remember John being all for 'Counts As' Guard as LatD. He seems to have changed his tune.

In this case, no, I very much doubt it. I just smell inconsistency resulting from general clueless-ness brought about by 'Head-In-The-Clouds' syndrome.

The Lost and the Damned. I never saw this army, and when I first heard of it I was not impressed. By the time I actually learned what it was like, it was too late. It fits the image of my ideal army, but lies just out of reach. It is like Games Workshop is dangling a carrot in front of me and cackling like madmen. If they revived The Lost and the Damned, I would pick it up on release day.

Genestealer Cults also sound quite interesting, but far less so.

I don't know that my position has changed all that much.

Today, LatD is probably best fielded a "treat as" Guard army of some sort. Men are men and that's the bulk of Chaos Guard. Unless it's Nurgle, in which case Nurgle Guard = Orks, but I digress...

But this poll asks not about today, but about what might be done in the future. Further, there aren't any other options.

Given the mono-dimensionality of the GSC & Kroot alternatives, the potentially interesting options are Chaos Guard and Squats.

I see more potential with Chaos Guard, so they got the nod going forward.

HBMC do you have a PDF of the old Lost and the Damned rules? I'd really like to see what they were like.

I chose LatD because there is nothing like them in the game at the moment;
For genestealer cults you have Nids, for Kroot mercs you have tau yet for LatD the closest you can get is IG which is the wrong side of the imperium and lacks all the mutants, zombies and chaos

thus i voted LatD

The Eye of Terror is not legal, but the Lost and the Damned list is. Games Workshop had a pdf of the list on their old websites. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of this any more.

Good luck getting a tournament to accept it.

Yes, they had a copy up when it was legal. How many years ago was that? It is no longer available because GW decided to continue to strip all the cool stuff out of their game (except for the spaze muhrines). No one would let you play with that list anymore. And why should they? Just play Apocalypse!

I voted for the least popular choice, interesting.

I personally love the kroot merc list and really enjoy the forge world model range. I think it is the only thing different from all the other armies.

LatD: they have their rules in the in the new Co:SM and do we really need more power armor? I say no.

Stealer Cult: the old cultist model range was competing for an ugliest model range award. Aside from some interesting special rules they turn into guard without tons of tanks IMO

Squats: The last thing 40K needs is stereotypical addition to their science fiction platform, Space Dwarfs. Space elves are enough and the idea of mashing Eldar and Ork into Squats is simply not a large enough diversion from either to be worth it, again IMO.

NOW FOR THE KROOT : the kroot bring something a bit differnt to 40K. A race of beings that ride dinosaurs into battle against armies wielding lasor weaponry and battalions of flying gun ships. Its the juxtaposition that is lacking in 40K. They can assimilated genes into their race (just like the cultists) and they play as a CC horde (also just like the stealer cultists). As previously mentioned the model range is awesome and with the proper special rules and pt values, should be a great army to play. My only beef is with the addition of Squiggoths to the orks list and their ramshackle styling that the kroot are too akin to starving orks. However, similar to my beef with Squats, orks really are simply the stereotypcal orc/gomblin placed into the war torn universe of 40K.

1) No, mutants, zombies and chaos guard are not MEQ. However CSM, Co:SM (with Chapter Specific IC providing Chapter Tacts), DA, BA, Wolves, are ALL MEQ and that was my point

2) Yes kroot exist but the OP asked which army should be REmade. As in made again, retooled, refurbished, etc., etc.

3) LatD exist as far as the rules included for them in the Co: SM, very similar in fashion to the rules for Kroot in Co: Tau.

If I was king of the Dev Team, I would make a LatD codex, with enough choices (even if they weren't the most competitive choices in the codex) to make an easy 'count as' GSC.

HQ - Psyker (Magus)
Elite - Fast, killy mutants (Genestealers)
Slow, killy mutants (some type of Hybrid)
Troops - Untrained humans (cult followers)
Traitor Troops/PDF
Some sort of mutants with guns (hybrids)
FA - Sentinels
Hellhounds
Heavy - Tanks
Artillery
Maybe some sort of huge mutant/daemon thing (carnifex)

I'd make a LatD line of minatures, some of which might be the new IG tanks with a 'spiky bitz' sprue or similar (just as CSM field a Predator, which is the same kit except for one sprue). And I'd build enough choices that it could easily 'count as' a GSC list, and maybe even an Imperial uprising, last line of hive defense, etc. There's a lot of cases in the fluff of a big uprising of the populace (chaos, genestealers, religious zealots), and that style of army needs to be in 40k gaming world.

If anyone wants it, I have a PDF of the Lost and the Damned rules that I downloaded from the GW site before it was redesigned. I can upload it in the morning.
