I lascnanno/heavy bolt firing out of a chimera port? etc. What about grenade launchers et all?
Also if so, can a heavy weapon team ( 3 heavy bolts/autocannons etc) get in a chimera that has been vacated?

yes, you can fire whatever you want out of the chimera.
put a squad of 3 lascannons in a chimera and if the chimera or the squad have not moved this turn, they may all three shoot out.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, unless the Chimera has been modified in some way to have heavy weaponry fired from it by the crew.
It works in the game though. There's quite a few things about transports that don't make sense, so I wouldn't sweat this one too much.

I don't think it's *too* unbelievable. The hatch at the back of the Chimera is pretty big, after all, and the requirement for the Chimera to remain stationary for you to fire heavies out of it makes a little more sense from the 'setup time' point of view (although firing three Lascannons does seem a bit far-fetched, I'll admit)
---------------------------------
To the OP - In case you happen to be wondering, template weapons are a little fuzzier when it comes to rules. While there's nothing stopping the model itself from shooting, you cannot touch any part of a friendly model (e.g. the Chimera), so you cannot fire IIRC. Probably a good thing to ask your opponent before the game if you're planning on using them.

The Heavy Weapons don't shoot out of the ports, they shoot out of the top hatch. In the New Codex it says they can fire out of it, assumed to be out of the top hatch... in the old one it says they shoot out of the top hatch and gain the rule opened top... so now in 5th ed, you don't suffer from Opened Top

Quick clarification: The IG Codex says 5 models can shoot out of the top hatch. HWTs are counted as two models for transport purposes. Does this conflict with having the entire squad of HWTs fire?
Thanks

Thanks HWTs are counted as two models for transport purposes. That's it. They count as 1 Model for every other function it could possibly do. That includes Firing from a Fire Point.

Yeah... I could have used a chimera to protect my mortar squad the last game I played... they got over-run by an ork horde and didn't even stand a chance...
So is 3 pretty much the most HWTs you're ever gonna get into a chimera? I remember reading something like if you blobbed 5 infantry squads that had HWTs, and then all the ablative infantry died, THEN you could mount them, but is there any easier ways?

No, they do take up two slots. For some reason instead of giving them Bulky, or writing it in the rules/description for HWTs or Chimeras, it's on the special rules page.

There are real-world equivalents. The British Saracen APC, for example, has a top-hatch like a chimera and it has a mount on the back of the hatch for a light machine gun (bren gun in this case). Since IG heavy weapons use a common tripod it would be very easy to have a mount socket or two by the hatches.
The only one that really doesn't make sense is the mortars - firing that from the floor of the chimera would be VERY unpleasant for everyone inside.

Mortars aren't very loud....it sounds like a dull tumd.
|
As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time. |

Not to be argumentative, but yes mortars ARE loud. I was an 11-C for the Army (indirect fire infantryman) and the larger 100mm+ mortars could make your ears and nose bleed from the concussion of the muzzle blast if you did not switch out dropping the rounds every few minutes. It was even worse if you were in an enclosed compartment like a M1064A3 (google it). The mid-sized 81mm mortars, which I used, were not quite that bad, but they still had to use a bell-shaped device at the end to redirect the muzzleblast so you wouldn't get the said nosebleeds and earbleeds.
That aside, it is not uncommon at all to fire mortars from inside APCs. Thus the M1064A3 reference I made earlier. In fact, some of the larger mortars HAVE to be either towed or mechanized, as they are far too large to be carried. The 81mm mortar I was a crew to split into 4 main components: the tube, the baseplate, the bipod, and the viewfinder/sight. Generally, the baseplate weighed close to 30 pounds, the tube 20 pounds, the bipod 15 pounds, and the sight was somewhere around 5 pounds in its protective case. (These numbers are from memory and may not be exact, but they're close). Between the 3 man crew, that was plenty of extra weight to our rucks... I can't even imagine what a 120mm might weigh.

It doesn't sound like much on the TV because most mics can't record the sound in any kind of adequate fashion and most speakers couldn't play it anyway.
If your ears are above the mouth of the mortar tube when the round goes off you can kiss goodbye to your hearing for a few days at least. Why do you think the crew always ducks as they drop the round?
The M1064 has the muzzle above the hatches to make it a bit easier on the crew. If you were setting up an IG mortar on the floor of a chimera it'd be brutal (the shockwave would echo around the passenger compartment so even the guys that are ducking will get spanked pretty hard).
