I was talking to the manager at my games-workshop store and he told me

"Games-workshop is planning updating all codices before looking into releasing any new rule book. They plan on releasing a codex for every army with an existing codex right now."

I ask him if he knew if and when dark eldar were being released and he said

"...sigh* They plan on releasing a codex for every army with an existing codex right now."

so we should be able to expect everyone to be brought up to speed...

"I was talking to the manager at my games-workshop store and he told me..."

This is often not the most reliable source for news and/or rumors that end up being true.

Still, you never know!

I swear I read another rumour on here about a month ago from an identical source that said, 'All codexes from now on are just going to have fluff in, there's gonna be one big rulebook released with all the armies actual gamerules in'.

just let the DE stay dead for a while. All the moaning about them getting a new dex and necrons new dex is just getting old.
Store managers are generally on the lower rungs on the ladder of GW news so yeah its not the best source.

The truth of this rumour varies on the age of the op...
if he is under 18 its probably just the manager fething with his mind, however if the op is an adult this gets interesting...

While it would be nice, I doubt that GW will update all the codices before sixth edition.

Yes i am over 18, and it was the Games Workshop store that is the head quaters of north america, i don't think the guy is that low on the ladder. Just my opinion though.

It's a pipe dream, and I'll believe it when I see it.

The best we can hope for is to see updates of the remaining 3E Codices during 5E before moving to 6E.

I wonder how much money GW makes on Army Books?

Perhaps they should all just get living codexs with the bare rules and sell the Fluff/Bestiary sections seperately.

Will never happen. I'm not even sure it would be a good idea. I like having the stories and hobby section in my codices.

This very well could be GW's policy right now, but in six months it may change. Consistency isn't something GW does well.

Jervis told us a while back that no new armies would be released until all armies that currently had a codex were redone. A few weeks later Daemons was announced as a new army for 40k.

If they could do that without making a hash of it (now THERE is an "ïf"), I would love to see it. I'd pay a lot for it, given how much we pay for codecixes already. But I wouldn't bet a plug nickel they could pull it off.

There has only been one version of the SM Codex per edition

2nd: UM
3rd: SM (1998 - first Codex)
4th: SM (2004 - first Codex)
5th: SM (2008 - first Codex)

That's it. It makes sense to be the first release, since there are more players with that army than any other, by a decent margin. So they probably build a new ruleset with that in mind, "balancing" the game towards the plurality army. The next SM Codex will probably hit after 6th edition, whenever that is.

Even if it was the manager at the Baltimore Bunker, his word holds little weight. He is still on the retail end of the company and therefore is told very little about what is coming up or what long term plans are. I know, I used to be one!

COOL! I'll restart my Kroot army now so it's ready for the new codex.

Or should I focus on Lost and Damned?

Mixed WH/DH force that doesn't use any Chambers Militant. I hear that type of army is a shoe-in for a full Codex release.

To be fair, the 3.5th edition Codex: Chaos Space Marines was redone as the 4th/5th edition Codex: Chaos Space Marines, and the 5th edition Codex: Chaos Daemons.

I'm perfectly willing to accept that it is GW's plan is to get every Codex redone before 6th Ed hits. Of course, that plan of GW's can (and probably will) change at some point in the next 6-18 months, maybe even twice.

They change horses in every race multiple times, and even if this new info is 110% accurate, it won't be in a few months as the Frankenstein's Monster that is GW lurches and stumbles towards a new goal or design ethic.

Its too soon to think about 6th. 5th is just around a year old.

Best way to project what GW will actually do is to find out what kind of assumptive model they are using to predict their most profitable moves.

And then just whip out the magic eight ball anyway.

Yawn.

Enough with the Space Marine hate already.

Buy a TON of Xenos and GW will notice.

Buy a TON of Xenos direct from GW, and they'll notice even more.

In other words, vote with your wallet.

I haven't brought any SM besides AoBR since 2005 when I first started. It's not that I hate them, it's just that they're boring as they're repeated too often and I'd rather a new race introduced then most of the chapter codex's.

They could all basically use the same book though >_>

Didn't GW also promise to sell kits that include all the options?

THen they rereleased the IG units at a significant price hike (from $35 for 2 to $25 for 10) but still NO heavy weapons and missing most of the specials.

And then redid their tanks without accessories like the heavy stubber and HK missile.

So I wouldn't put any stock in a GW promise.

They could release a white dwarf codex for crons, DH, WH and dark eldar and claim that that counts as a codex for every army before 6th.

At this point I would settle for a WD army list. Just give me some new DE models already!!!
