You didn't miss it, you just posted it post-factum mortum... really bad joke.
Respect to Teddie, hopefully his efforts will have proven successful in this endeavor. R.I.P. mate.
You should have seen peoples faces when I told them that I didn't know that M.J. had died... like 3 days or so after the fact. Luckily I do not watch inst-news very often, but a lot of the news sites are still running random stories about it that really are not news... to most of us at least.

There seems to be a smear campaign going on in the UK claiming he supported the IRA. I'm no expert but as far as im aware even though he was a republican he still condemed the violence on both sides.
Can anyone who knows a bit more Kennedys elaborate on this? Did he ever actually come out in support of the IRA?

I would direct you to the collected quotes and thoughts here.
Pro the republic yes, but he came out against the violent IRA on several occasions and generally advocated peaceful talks.

On July 25, Kennedy pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and was given a sentence of two months in jail, suspended. That night, he gave a national broadcast in which he said, "I regard as indefensible the fact that I did not report the accident to the police immediately", but denied driving under the influence of alcohol and denied any immoral conduct between him and Kopechne.[46] Kennedy asked the Massachusetts electorate whether he should stay in office and, after getting a favorable response, he did so.
Taken from wiki about the icident in question.
Ted was a pretty influential member of Congress, I can only wonder who will take his place.

Republican has more than one meaning.
In this context, it means someone in favour of a united Irish republic, rather than two seperate states (the Republic and Nothern Ireland).
Sinn Féin- Republican party over here, yet aside from unification, many of their economic policies are kinda socialist. (In a cynical attempt to appeal to pissed off people in poorer areas, mostly) Automatically Appended Next Post: Actually, this explains something wierd that happened to me yesterday. I was enrolling in uni again for teacher training, and the admin asked my name. I said "John Kennedy". She starts muttering "Mr Kennedy is dead, Mr Kennedy is dead..." I was like wtf, but now it makes more sense.

It's nice to know that he felt bad about getting 2 months suspended on a crime anyone else would be doing real jail time for. That's ok, what we really always wanted in this country is something akin to a royal family. Maybe one that didn't get it's money and power from criminal enterprise would have been better, but you work with what you have. For what [the immediate family] did to Sammy Davis Jr. alone they can all toss off. That isn't to say I'm happy he is dead, I just don't care.
Still, I feel badly for Maria Shriver. She lost her mother and her last Uncle in two weeks time.

Crowds have poured into the streets of Boston to bid farewell to Edward Kennedy and pay homage to the Democratic Party giant who helped shape US history over the last half-century.
They cheered and clapped as the motorcade, which earlier left the Kennedy family's seaside compound on Cape Cod and passed Boston's historic Fanuiel Hall before stopping at the John F Kennedy library for public viewing.
Thousands of people whistled, waved and wept. Office workers leaned out of windows and some even watched from rooftops.
A huge US flag was unfurled at City Hall and mayor Thomas Menino rang a bell 47 times, marking each of the years that Senator Kennedy, who died Tuesday (local time) aged 77, served in the senate.
Earlier, Senator Kennedy's body began its final journey in Hyannis Port, the idyllic Atlantic resort where generations of the powerful Irish-American clan have taken their holidays.
His coffin, wrapped in the Stars and Stripes, was placed solemnly in a hearse by a uniformed honour guard at his home as his 55-year-old widow Vicki looked on surrounded by friends and family.
Mourners climbed into a fleet of half-a-dozen black limousines, escorted by police motorbikes.
Hundreds turned out in the blazing sun to watch, standing in silence.
Three days of ceremonies will end Saturday with a funeral mass in Boston attended by President Barack Obama, then burial in Arlington National Cemetery, near Washington.
Before that, Senator Kennedy's body will lie in state at the John F Kennedy Presidential Library, with the public invited to pay their last respects.
Family and friends will also hold a private wake late Friday.
Senator Kennedy's life included extraordinary personal tragedy, shocking scandals and political triumphs.
As the brother of slain president John F Kennedy and presidential hopeful Robert F Kennedy, Senator Kennedy was seen as the last leader of his political clan. He will be buried alongside both brothers in Arlington.
Mr Obama was to give a eulogy at Saturday's mass at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica. He will not attend the private burial service in Arlington.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |
