I'm thinking of heading to a tournament in late september. But reading the website, I notice they have some list building restrictions:
-No special characters
-No triple special choices
-No double rare choices

Now from my point of veiw, this is inconvenient, as I was hoping to run Grimgor Ironhide in my Orc army to get access to an Immune to Psychology unit of black orcs to help against all the fear causers out there.

Other armies I can imagine will suffer will be Empire (no double Stank), and Dwarves (no Thorek).
Daemon flesh hound blitz is less effective now, anything else about that that hurts daemons a lot? Who benefits? Who doesn't care?
What list would you bring?
It's certainly causing me to rethink some stuff!

I would think a Dark Elf monster/shooty list would still be alright. Unkillable Dreadlord on a Dragon, someone with a Manticore, a single hydra, dual RBTs (I'm assuming this would be allowed since both can be taken as one Rare choice). The rest of the army fills itself out and doesn't rely on triple specials.

High Elves would only be hurt with regard to the no double Rares, since we only get one eagle or one RBT per choice. Wonder if they'd make an exception for them.

I don't think Empire will suffer *that* badly. Double Stank is rough, but it's by no means needed to be successful (War Altar Archlector + Stank is still viable).

Non-Thorek Anvil can still be pretty nasty, just not nearly as nasty as Thorek-Anvil lists.

WoC are hurt fairly badly. Kholek/Archaon are aces.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

I think the restrictions are ok. It evens out the chances for all armies.

I saw simular restrictions for Giant Fanatic 12 in Denmark. There are restrictions for each army and some exceptions

We will reclaim what is our

I don't see how this evens things out for all armies.

This is pretty common for tournaments, and many tournaments go farther.

If you don't like it, don't go, and tell the TO why / offer suggestion.

But again, as these things go, it's pretty basic restriction that you're looking at above.

Oh, I'm aware. This is just the first one I'm considering going to with these kinds of restrictions. Mostly because it's a new event and I like to support new events, especially in areas that didn't previously have any.

Yes, I'm considering that as an option.

Yep. The topic of the thread isn't actually complaining about restrictions or how draconian they are or anything like that. I'm actually just interested in what more experienced people think the effect on the metagame will be. I'm playing O&G, and have recently been trying to make a list that can deal with undead and demons a bit better. So I'm interested if people who play these armies think they will be easier to beat or happier in general.

Yeah, it's no problem. I think it's just that this is kind of "standard" restrictions. But either way, unbreakable ItP Daemons / Vampires are going to be tough on Animosity & Stupid O&G...
