Hi to all!!

I'm here again with another diorama. This new one will be less complex than Warriors of Ultramar: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/231915.page, because I want to feel the hobby in my veins again, hahaha! Yes, I was very tired since my last work...

Now I show you the beginning of the project, that I call "Ars Mechanica", because I want to represent an space workshop, inspired inthe 40K millenium universe. The miniatures will be modelled, because I don't want a battle scene but a relaxed one.

STEP 1

STEP 2

STEP 3

Now you can see that I'm now painting the base with rusty colors. I don't want a red or orange base, that's why I try to paint it with a lot of different tones, like turquoises, browns...

I want to put in this scene a lot of workshop tools, with a great detail level, to get an impressive and realistic diorama.

STEP 4

I show you my last update. As you can see, I'm trying to paint this space ship with many rusts, like a very old mechanical workshop.

I used hot tones (oranges, reds and browns) with cold ones, like blues or turquoises. After this first weathering step, I'll apply a filter to unify all the scene.

I'll put a lot of details, of course, and a big vehicle... that I'll show you in future posts.

Enjoy it and I hope you like it!

Another excellent looking project from you.

I look forward to following this as the even in the current phase it is stunning. I love the dirty floor, so many different colors but still coherent looking.

Parts of that (when you are zoomed in and can't see the edges of the model) look like you have just taken pictures of an actual abandoned factory.

The level of detail you have achieved here is amazing.

I can't wait to see it when it is done.

This looks brilliant so far. After following your other works, this will be one to watch.

How did you make the Oil patches so realistic??

Nice, love how this looks so far.

Don't suppose you'd be able to give a quick lesson on how you did you rust effects?

Thanks for your polite words!!!

Xanthos552, to make that oil effect I used the Tamiya Smoke paint (ref. X-19), mixed with water to get a "real oil".

Get to the chopper!, thanx! I'll do an article with all techniques that I used in this diorama, ok?

---------------------

Today I show you my complete idea for this diorama; I want to represent a workshop where a Land Raider it's repaired. I'm going to convert some ogres like a servers of the Adeptus Mechanicus, with many cyber implants and other futuristic examples.

I'm going to paint the tank with my own chapter color scheme, I think, because I want to paint it in blue and turquoise color, like the base of the terrain.

And now I want to show you my own industrial derrick, made with elements of my bit box. Very easy to do and very cheap!

I hope you like it!

Looking good so far. Will there be an overseer or some such? Just thinking you seem to have a bit of an empty space in the front left corner, near the control panel on the railing, which would make a great place for something overseeing the work

Thanks again for your C&C!!

SilverMK2, you've got such a great idea! We think the same thing, and maybe I'll put an adeptus in that corner. Thanx!

Stubby, thanx for your polite words!

Death Gear
, thanx again, my friend!

---------------------

I'm working in the terrain again, because I found a mistake in the original concept. I said that it wanted to represent a workshop, and in these there are many girders of iron.
That's why I decided to put these girders in the front of the scene, to make a ceiling. I think this will be a good idea.
Now I'm in the design step, jeje.

I'll show you my latest steps, the paint of the tank and the adeptus servers.

Enjoy it!

I like the realistic painting, and will follow this project.

One question though: Where do you get your gears?

I agree totally Connann, these girders will add some parallax to the scene. You could even enclose the left hand wall so that only 2 sides are open.

This also gives you the option of having some lighting hanging from the girders so that you could light the scene completely internally.

Just out of intrest, did some of the wheels and hatches on the walls come from a T-55 kit. I can't remember the brand, but I have pieces of that tank, and use them for terrain alot.

Fixing a land Raider? Put a Tech Marine up supervising instead of a Mechanicus.

So far, amazing work, and the steel girders will make a great addition

Thanks again for your C&C!!

Frowbakk, thanks! I get that kind of gears recycling some old watches. I used a lot of pieces from toys (cars, robots...) to get useful materials. Recicle, recicle!! Jajajaja!

Stubby, thanks a lot, my friend! I planned the scene with a closed wings, but I decided to open both sides to get a big workshop, not a claustrophobic place. I'll put a lot of tools and other things (Adeptus...) that's why I prefer to open the scene.
You're right with the ilumination, but I'm going to put a window area in the top of the wall, as you correctly says.
Your comments are very useful, thanks!!!!

Jimi, thanx! Yes!! The wheels belong to the T-55 tank model (LEE chinese brand), very good for this kind of dioramas (1:35 scale). Yes, I'll put an Adeptus Mechanicus, but the mechanical repairs will make by transformed ogres.

Thanks and I'm working on it!

Really awesome looking diorama yet again.

I feel the bendy straws are sort of letting you down, I know it's a minor quibble ^_-, but I've never liked the effect they give, even painted.

Call me impressed, alright.

I would only enclose one wall, maybe put in windows that are painted over or smoked (i.e. translucent).
