this T'au player plays with a commander Farsight army and always takes the full bodyguard squad and gives them shield drones, twin-linked flamers and either plasma rifles or burst cannons.

He never takes hammerheads, uses broadsides and sniper teams alot.

use something like this,

Shrike, 195

tac squad 180
bolter x9 plasma gun
drop pod
locator beacon 45

tac squad 180
bolter x9 plasma gun
drop pod
locator beacon 45

assault squad, 205
bolt pistol x10, ccw x9, power weapon x1

assault squad, 205
bolt pistol x10, ccw x9, power weapon x1

Assault terminator squad, 200
TH/SS x5

Assault terminator squad, 200
LC x5

Infiltrate one of the assault termie squads with shrike, deepstrike the rest, use the locator beacons on the pods to keep your stuff safe from scatter. Your probly gonna take a turn or 2 of shooting before you can assault. but when you do get into assault you will destroy everything. jsut try to keep farsight out of base contact when you assault, hopefully he will not be able to get him in either, attack with your assault squads and LC termie squad first so he takes off the sheild drones and you can save the hard hitting TH to pop the battlesuits. Use the tac squads to bolter down the broadsides.

Why are't you putting heavy weapons in all your tactical squads missile launchers, heavy bolters and Multimelta are free at the cost of loosing one rapid firing boltgun and having to fire a pistol instead if you have moved that is one less dice and if you don't move then it's boom time. I would rather try to squeeze in a unit of terminators to ride in a land raider than the dreadnaught. Also Sternguard in a drop pod combined with the librarian using Gate of Infintiy works well against Tau especially if you give them a heavy Flamer and combi flamers.

Get A WHOLE LOT of POWERFISTS or POWERSWORDS. They won't provide any armour save and invulnerable save for the opposing model thats being attacked. And get a lot of plasma weapons.

how about this

10 man Tac squad (melta bombs, 2 plasma pistols,(sergeant) plasma gun, plasma cannon) 220 pts(Drop pod,LB)45pts

10 man Tac squad (melta bombs, power fist,(sergeant) melta gun, multi-melta) 205 pts (Drop pod,LB)45pts

5 Assault terms LC 200 pts

Fast attack
10 man assault squad (power fist, storm shield, 2 plasma pistols) 255 pts

total = 1555 pts

Ok what if i drop pod the these 2 Tac squads in deep, infiltrate shrike and LC termies and deep strike other termies. while I combat the last Tac squad and have the flamer group advance while the missile launcher holds any objectives.

Should i Deep strike the Assault squad or advance up the center with the cover that all the other units will afford.

Tau can use markerlights to reduce cover save so DS your Assault squad and TH/SS term squad.

if you deepstrike everything in, he won't have the time to focus on killing your entire army. sure, he might take down 1 or two units... but if even a single tac squad makes it into hand to hand, he's pretty screwed.

tau can't handle the hardcore assaulty goodness that is the space marine army.

the only thing i am worried about with the Assault squad is that they cant benifit from the teleport homer on the drop pods.

i don't want them to scatter on to somthing that will kill them.

Full drop pod army. Deep strike everything. Get into assault ASAP. As soon as you do Tau is dead. Farsight or not it doesn't matter. Plus, he's spending the majority of his points on that single unit. This means the rest of his army is very weak.

As a Tau commander what scares me the most is fast assaulters. Or heavily armoured transports.

Heavily armored transports? You've got to be kidding me. We have the best anti-tank gun in the game. Twinlinked as well. If you can immobilize or destroy Land Raiders you are not putting together a good list at all.

Most fast assaulters can be pinned. Pinning tests are not morale tests. They are leadership tests. For space marines, ATSKNF means they can still be pinned.

Against assaulting armies spread out. They need to spread out their forces to get at all of your units. Use ranged guns to your advantage.

Perhaps for higher points games. I usually play 1000 or so and at this points level broadsides are usually a waste of points. Usually at those points I face Rhinos in which case missile pods are far more effective point for point anti-vehicle. But I played 3000 points recently and the broadsides dominated the table... so what you say is true but for bigger games.

As for fast assaulters, try playing nids! They are all fleet and some can assault 12 inches as well as having a plethora of outflankers!. Most are fearless and automatically pass pinning checks. Same goes for Ork hordes.

To get back th the OP, fast assault and marine rush scare me as a Tau player. Get in his face quickly, present him with multiple threats. Thats the way to beat Tau. If you present him 1 threat at a time he will focus his fire and blow you away. He can only take 1 broadside unit remember. If you have 2-3 transports coming at him you have redundnacy and will be on top of him by T2.

Agreed, as a tau player if you come at me hard and fast with an assault heay army I'm going to do 1 of 2 things.

1) Create a sacrificial "Kroot wall" to try and control where you deepstrike. Then all else failing, feed the kroot to you hoping the hounds kill off some marines while the rest of my army gets mobile.

2) Hold everything in reserve, running the risk of feeding you a unit at a time.

both of these are easy to counter and prepare for

-BP and CCW
-Power Sword

170

-Power Weapon

He will get maximum ONE turn of shooting, if he goes first, before you slam into him with a bunch of assault troops. The sniper scouts are to sit on an objective and contemplate their belly buttons, the chaplain is basically a points filler, if you want you could drop him, and replace all instances of "power weapon" with "power fist" and still have points left over.

Easy.

Use you SM models as "counts as" and use a CSM list based on Abaddon and lots and lots of CSM terminators with combi meltas.

Deep strike onto the SOB, and then let The mass termis melta dudes 1 shot instant kill melta holes in all his armour suits. Abaddon will rape about seven armour suits himself each turn in CC if he possibly can.

And you will laugh MWAHAHAHA! all the way to the allegorical bank.....

You don't need drop pods, you don't need rhinos, you don't need troops, fast or Heavy. But you could rig up some cotton reels and stick lots of weapon bits on and call them "counts as " obliterators if you want.

Or just use your Sm models with little paper flags to explain what they are. Combi Melta Termi, Heavy Flamer Termi (a whole army of these) Oblit......All heavy gak, nothing less.

People think you have to win by following the scenario, or KPs or claim the objective or scoring units. Thats all for sissies!

Just make a list of all OTT crazy fething killie units and you win by clearing the board of the of the Tau pestilence and fail if your deep strikes don't get you close enough to do so.

He's expecting Space marines. WELL, CHAOS Space marines are marines after all.

And what can possibly be at issue with a little "counts as" between friends"

Commander Farsight and even a 100 of her girlie armoursuited hairdresser friends would be no more than a snack for hungry Abaddon in hand to hand.

It will be fun.

You will fail if the spaces aren't right and he can shoot you and fly away.

So be it. The beauty of this "plan" is that it either succeeds or it fails. Tis but a silly game after all!

Live a little!

OTG.

All these fools call this SM crap "assault troops" That garbage is not assault troops. Abaddon alone, just the one model is all the "assault troops" you ever need!

That he comes with 30 terminator friends is just a detail of fleshing out the 1500 points.
