Ok was playing a game last night and my mate shot at my Chapter master with his LR using the LC
So he stated you mesure LOS from the barrel edge ,but my HQ was to the left of his LR so i said only 1 LC could draw LOS .
Now with how the LR was placed and where my HQ was placed he could not draw a straght line form his LC so he said as long as you can see the target from the barrel edge it did not matter ,but i said how can a shot WITH how the gun was placed veer to the left, he had to say the shot came out the LC and then went left instead of straight from the barrel.
now unless i am wrong and i have to ask, can a LR that traces LOS in a straight line down the barrel tatget a unit even if it means the shot comes out the barrel then veers left or right or have you got to draw a straight line down the barrel to where the gun is pointing?

As long as the model is in the weapons arc of sight (and in range) as depicted on pg. 59 for the BRB, it is a viable target.

so a shot can veer left or right out of the barrel then ?
ie simple ,you point your gun at my left arm but shoot my right arm?
the bullet leaves a straight barrel then on exiting the barrel it turns left ?
he could not point at my HQ so the shot had to veer left the arc would not allow him to point at me

Real World physics don't really apply to 40k. Because most models can't move their weapons, you have to assume that the gun is moved to point at their target.

ok so let me get it right a LC on a LR can turn into its own hull and fire through its own hull to hit my HQ as that was the only way he could draw straight LOS to my HQ
he was saying the shot left the end of the barrel and went left
now as i understand it the arc on LC on LR is 45 degrees his shot ment its arc was abot 60 degrees and add that extra on to all shots it gives him an arc of nealy 180 degrees
he could not move th LC any more to actualy point at my HQ ,it was pointing at a tree and that to me does not make sence
if thats right then fine got to accept the rules but it seems a bit daft to me beacuse using his intepretaion of the rules that would give a LR LC nearly 300 degrees arc

Sorry, bit tired while writing. No, if the sponson mounted weapon is on the other side of the hull, then no, it can't fire as it can't draw LOS.

So just to clarify you draw los down the barrel to where the gun points ,you can move it to point at things but only in a 45 degree angle and the shot can not veer left or right from the barrel edge to give more arc

Note also that LOS is Drawn "from the mounting and along the barrel" not "from the tip and then any direction you like".

yeah,
you measure from the barrel. I understand where your coming from. But you have to accept this as a rule.
The game is representitive of action. Instead of thinking that the tank moves, stops, fires, moves, stops, fires. and shots from the canon bend.
Imagine a tank moving and firing as it goes. the canons firing at targets as they make themselves visable while the tank turns and moves, this is the fire arc the rules represent.
If the rules got too involved in the actual facts, we'd be recording which gear the driver currently has the tank engine engaged in, if the spotter has had his lunch, and if the gunner has reloaded the canon or is changing the track on his walkman.
and remember Chapter Master's go splat... try to have fun!
Panic...
