I recently created these 3D models as a commission. They were for a SCAR and a M14 to be made suitable for "40k". The SCAR has the same maximum dimensions as a Cadian Lasgun. The M14 is similar in size.

I've been asked to create a number of other 40k suitable weapons. This time the weapons to be done are upto me. So I'm just looking for some input into some weapons people think are suitable for this task. Unlike a lot of other weapons out there these will end up perfectly usable with imperial guardsmen.

Here is a quick list of some weapons I like and some I want to stay away from.
Like
M3 Grease Gun
Sten
MG42
MP34
MP3008

Dislike:
AK47 (AK 74, etc)
G36
M16 (M4, etc)
M1A1 Thompson
Sterling (this isn't starwars)
P90

Beyond those I'd like to get some ideas. The stranger more unusual guns earn brownie points.

Personally I'd do a GIAT FAMAS. It looks like it could live in 40k..

Some of my favourites

SA-80 (normal and LMG versions)
Gyrojet
Bren
NTW20 anti-materiel rifle
PDW
Grenade MG
GPMG
Steyr AUG
G11 (assault rifle and LMG versions)
Boys Anti-tank rifle

(Also the OICW was also quite neat)

Intersting that you are happy with the Sten, and yet shy away from its more refined cousin the Sterling.

I would say any bull pup gun design would be worth looking at like the SA80, Steyr AUGs, and FN F2000 (which looks almost like the Halo gun).

The Famas would just end up like Elysian Lasguns... seems redundant in that regard.

Mini gun, doesn't the 40k universe have enough whirly guns of death? Probably not, but... I wouldn't call it a high priority design.

The SA80, steyer aug and bullpups in general are going to run into the problem that they won't be able to fit the arms being sculpted as modular replacements to cadian arms. The steyer is probably the most worthwhile of all the proposed bull pups.

I think the NTW20 anti-materiel rifle and Boys Anti-tank rifle are a must.

Grenade MG is cool, but maybe outside the scope of this particular commission. Since it comes off as more of a heavy weapon.

The G11 is practically already a 40k weapon... easy. I'm only aware of the assault rifle.

The OICW would look quite bolterish.

Flinty wrote: Intersting that you are happy with the Sten, and yet shy away from its more refined cousin the Sterling.

The Sterling was used as the basis of the Stormtrooper's E11 blaster in starwars... I think any futuristic updating of the Sterling would end up with something too similar to that weapon.

Any shotguns?

Oooooh, Barrett sniper rifle... Aaagggghhh........

I have a love hate relationship with that gun. Long story I can't talk about...
Not sure how it will look on a mini, the barrel might be too thin...

I think a las-M4 would be awesome! Lots of pew pew, but while looking bad
I would also like to see AK's on Orks. It just fits.

The commission is by a company that intends to sell these along with sets of IG compatible arms (minus shoulder pads).

These recommendation should not just be limited to SMGs and rifles. Those are just the most likely to be done first. I'm generally avoiding iconic weapons or things so deeply ingrained into the psyche of players that they go "that's just a las----." Think of this more as an experiment in doing like what a video game like Halo did taking some real weapons and doing some aesthetic changes to make them futuristic.

The plan is to do 6, 40k-ized weapons. Some will be made to be lasguns others kept as auto weapons. There will likely be a m203-esque grenade launcher that can be added to the rifles, as well as a separate scope. Some of the weapon will have scope/sights integrated to the model.

I think this is how it currently stands:

1. SCAR (as shown)
2. M14 (as shown)

3. 249SAW

4.Some cross between an MP34 and PPSH41 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PPSh-41

5. M50 Barrett

6. ??????? I don't know. I still need a shotgun and a pistol (count as accessory).

A1- M203 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/92/M203.jpg

Things I'm saving for when I get to do heavy and special weapons:
NTW20 anti-materiel rifle (as AC)
MK19/BGA (as HB)
OICW or lewis gun (mod into MG)
M60 (mod into PG)

It is a bit of a classic but "futuristic" looking thing.

This would be cool, but aesthetically doesn't convey its a shotgun.

I'm using bullpups from Hasslefree on my Guard. You need to trim them down a bit to fit the arm, but I reckon thats fine, because the magazine of a bullpup is normally hidden by the user's arm anyway.

The biggest change they made to it for Star Wars though was the trimming down of the magazine. Get a nice sickle pattern mag in the side as it should be and you have a new friend

You already have the M14 in there. How about going a bit older, like PPSh or Lee Enfields? SLR? Having said that, though, the length of normal 40k rifles are about right for the beast that was the SLR

Never been that fond of shtguns, but ther is always the streetsweeper/jackhammer class beasts.

For old school pistols you could go for an Age of Empire class Webley. Luger or P38 for a more refined older pistol? For modern personal arms you're more likely to run into carbines, PDWs or machine pistols (TMP?).

These first 6 weapons I'd really like to represent a cross section of weapons, representing a variety of common visual aesthetics of guns. For me I also think its important that the weapons have enough compatibility with the Imperial aesthetic. Of all the weapons I'm likely to eventually do these should deviate the least from the Imperial aesthetic. So some of these more radical things while interesting wouldn't necessarily work.

As it currently stands the arms that are being done to go with these are being designed for Cadian lasgun sized weapons, so even pistols and other shortened weapons like bull pups might not be compatible. So I think those types of things will be pushed off to a second "wave".

A shotgun is necessary because of how common they are on veteran squads now; so its a bit of a must to supply that option.
