I know ultras are the favorite of GW. My complain is all these other chapters get bling in a box. Ravenwing has their bike upgrades, puppies get their fur and tooths, and black templars get their cloth and crosses. So all I would like to know is where are my roman leather skirts, the plume helmets? I would like an ultramarine bling box please.

It's a shame really. I look at things like the new Wolf Guard Terminators, and the first thing that pops into my head is "Damn... why couldn't've they had this plastic tech when they made the standard plastic Termy kit". We could have models with astonishingly better details (and sprues that are less air and more bitz).

Things like the MANCHIN Scouts and even the basic Tac Squad could be improved upon so much these days.

I have friends who already have plans to raid the new Wolf spures for all the cool bits (lightning claws, neat helmets, ect.)

Even dark angels got a sprue though...I think the point was Ulras are supposedly "the standard" (meaning their cool stuff is the regular stuff)

(Although I disagree, Ultras DO actually have storyline.....not well written storyline, but hey, noone is perfect.)

The vets are ok , but to make a 10 man honor guard or 30 man honor guard for calgar am i supposed to get multiple expensive boxes to get 3 metal models and repeat them through out the squad. kind of boring the lack of variety ultras have among the units.

There's no Ultramarines stuff on any of the AoBR stuff. Apparently the little hobby set has molded Ultramarines shoulderpads though.

I think making a special kit for the most vanilla Space Marines is really silly, and overall pointless. If the most vanilla Marines don't use the vanilla kit, who the hell does?

Vanilla CSM dont get anything besides spikes and decals. You get decals that is the most you get for vanilla marines. Just be happy you are not necrons and have one troop choice.

fluff , ultras have probably the most. and they are not vanilla. they have a roman culture , have Olimpia to pick their recruits. they are even a founding chapter. just want roman stuff to put on them . most likely i will buy wolves and paint them ultramarines.

Not to mention that the Ultramarines get:

Marneus Calgar
Cato Sicarius
Varro Tigurius
Ortan Cassius
Torias Telion
Antaro Chronus

Actually, mixing Space Wolf stuff onto otherwise Ultramarine models would make for great Ultramarine-descendents, the Lupercalian Chapter under Master Romulus.

Well, dude's wondering where all the Ultramarines "bling" is, and all of those models have said "bling". In addition, I believe that the Space Marine Captain and the Terminator box sets come with Ultramarine-oriented widgets.

Yeah the space marine captain box has ultra bitz..

Plus your chapter dosen't get no flavour they get to be the BEST at everything and all the other chapters wish they were Ultras.

Rules-wise, Calgar's God of War converts Combat Tactics into a superior form of Fearless, and lets you spam the Honour Guard.

Sicarious is the only Space Marine Captain with Rites of Battle, and confers extra rules on units under his command.

Tigurius, quite apart from being a Master Psycker, is the Gift of Prescience which affects the co-oratination of Space Marine reserves.

Chronus shows the superiority of Ultramarine tanks, and Telion is superior Ultramarine training regime of Scouts, as well as providing an actual sniper.

As for Cassius, well, the Blood Angels and Dark Angels already have the fancy Chaplain characters. Litanies of Battle? Suck it Ultramarines, we do Litanies of Hate!

I was pretty sure that the tactical Squad was the only troop choice, not counting optional rules from other HQ's and such. However, Necrons are screwed in the fact that that there is no customization for that one troop choice, while SM have choices.
As for the topic, Ultras are the general Space Marines that all others are modeled after. It is the other chapters that vary because they have their own traditions because their Primarch didn't write the rules...

Scouts are a troops choice too, as are space marine bikes if your captain rides one.

Boo hoo. That forgeworld stuff is what, 10 dollars? Waaay out of your price range. You have more special characters than any other chapter, more fluff in the codex than any other chapter, an incredibly easy paint scheme, ultramarine specific bits in the commander box, about 100 models just for your chapter, and your army gets updated every week or so. Yeah, you have it so hard. Tell that to a blood angels player, whose only newly cast models this century have come from space hulk, or to a dark angels player, who pays twice as much for tactical marines because his marines like to wear dresses.

Just go buy some etched brass and tyrannic war veterans, and quit your bellyachin'.

I realise that this is such a ‘let them eat cake’ comment but if you want to customize your Marines, why not try your hand at sculpting your own details?

Kneadite ‘Green stuff’ is gods gift to correcting mistakes and short comings of model designers (insert what you don’t like or think a model lacks here).

There are enough tutorials on how to sculpt and with a little bit of practice you can be turning out leather loincloths and Loral wreaths at a tremendous rate and could even learn how to mold them as well!

My opinion - when the game was new, alternate SM chapters were just a way to get more armies into the game without the need for creating lots of new models. Paint it blue, it is Ultra. Paint it red, it is Blood Angels. Green for Dark Angels. And so on.

The up side of this is when new SM models come out, all Marine Players get a little something they can use. There are exceptions (ie BT can't get Whirlwind) but these are few.

In the old days, if you wanted to differentiate your SM army, you needed to convert it. This still can be done, and the mark of a true gamer is that he has done so. SM armies are relatively small, so I say go for it. A little bit of work will go a long way.

I do sympathize - it shouldn't be too hard for GW to make a few new heads. But I am just saying if they are not out there, don't let it stop you from creating your dream army. Hey, you already have some stunning models to start with. Go for it, here's to the Emperor.
