..is this really an offence ? Or is this very specific, ie when you're being questioned over serious offence X/Y/Z and they catch you it's illegal ?

This is Al'Qaeda we're talking about, the Terrorist group that simply isn't that good.

9/11 worked because of it's sheer audacity, and that the US simply didn't expect an attack, let alone on that scale.

Ever since then they've achieved precious little outside of the middle east. Christ, even the July 7th bombing in London sucked. Compared to the amount of potential damage, it simply proved that not only do they have largely hare brained schemes, and not only are our security forces doing an absolutely sterling job, but they are also shockingly incompetent. To me it's a miracle they avoid blowing themselves up whilst building their distinctly 'Wile Coyote' type weapons.
