If anyone is interested in the 40K precursor game Laserburn, the publisher is offering a pack (10 figures) free if you pay the postage.

I was going to do a retro review of Laserburn, I really ought to get back onto that.

This is absolutely positively some of the greatest news I've heard lately. I'll pay for my friend's shipping too and get their free Laserburn packs.
I always wanted to do this game or at least have some stuff to show from it!

I'm glad you're all taking advantage.
I have heaps of the Laserburn figures from when I played it in the early 80s.
They are quite characterful, though possibly a bit crude by modern standards.
People have got so used to seeing high-res photos of 28mm heroic figures they forget that 15mm figures are about the size of a Space Marine's shoulder plate.

Thanks for that link. Ive been kicking around the idea of possibly getting into a fantasy type game, but didnt want the hassle of going with GW. And the HOTT thing grabbed my attention. Loads of minis on the table for cheap too. I just might get into that one

I knew they would be small, but are they really that small? Now I need to see a size comparison photo of a SM next to a laserburn fig. Anyone?

As soon as I can I'll post them against Flames of War miniatures. I intend to base them on FoW bases.

It's not that they are small, more that modern GW figures have got so bloated.
If I can find my Laserburn figs I'll do a photo this weekend.

I should poinit out that laserburn is not the precursor to 40K, hey weren't written by the sam person and to quote Rick Priestly
It was a decimal based system so had nothing to do with 40K. It certainly wasn't the "precursor" to Rouge Trader as somme hoary old myths would have it. The only similarities were a couple of naming conventions

Laserburn was published in 1980, written by Bryan Ansell.
It features a far flung future in which the galaxy-spanning Empire of Man is beset by pirates, aliens and rebellious red robed religious cultists.
The main defenders of humanity are the Space Marines, who wear power armour and are equipped with bolter guns, flamers, power gloves and swords, vortex grenades and conversion beams.
The Emperor is a mere figurehead. The true power is the High Lords of Terra.
But apart from that, no similarity at all.
In truth, the rules are quite different to WHFB 1e, which was the basis for 40K.

When did Rick Priestly write this? Could it be that he's never read the Laserburn fluff?

I just got my batch of figures and they are so small that they can be hood ornaments on landraiders or devilfishes. Hahahahaha! How does anyone paint the details on these things?

You don't bother.
The secret to painting 15mm is speed techniques. Basecoat, pick out main details (gun, face, boots, etc.) Do one level of highlight on the main uniform. Ink wash. Varnish.
I once did 72 15mm ACW figures in one evening, from bare metal to based and ready for a game the next day.
If you think 15mm are small you should have a look at 6mm figures.
