I had built a Black Templar army for my first army and am now starting to dislike their style of play but have already painted a 2000 points worth of them and want to switch over to Ultra Marines. Should I sell them and start anew trade them or paint over them? Any idea's would be great. Also please I don't want to know if you think the Ultra Marines are gay and the Black Templar are the end all be all.

Welcome to Dakka Rc1987. You really don't have to worry about people expressing opinions like that around here.

Answer me one question before I hand out advice, do the Black Templars use a lot of black templar specific models? It might be hard to strip them and just paint them blue to get your Ultra Marines, they might just end up looking like Blue Black Templars. But then again, you could either play them as Blue Black Templars or Ultra Marines who have a striking resemblance to some Black Templar.

I'd say strip and repaint, it will give you a good amount of experience stripping models.

I'm of the opinion that selling anything will just end with later regrets.

As for the Templars, they'll be getting a new Codex in the next two years, so the way they play is sure to change. And there's no reason not to save up and get a second army.

to help us out you may want to tell us what models you have in what kit.

and despite being a loyal son of dorn all marines have their place in the hallowed halls of the empire of man.

You may use anything I post, just remember to give me credit if used somewhere else.

If you have 2k of *painted* Black Templars, then you should keep them.

Do you really need another Marine army? And if so, why not at least go with Chaos Marines for more variety?

No none of my piece have anything on them that would really be black templar except for the champion and chapter master. My army list goes as such- 2 LAnd Raiders, 4 Rhinos, 1 Predator, 1 Vidacator, 1 Whrilwind, 4 bikes, 3 Dreads, 10 Terms, and the rest are assualt vetrans and basic marines with diffrent weapons. O and a tech Marine. Thats the basic rundown. I really just wish now I could make scout squads and use pyskers there also limted to special charters. As for the Choas thats part of my problem my good friend is choas so he can be more verstile to the situation and if I did switch to choas he would bust my balls forever for joining the powers of choas

strip them and re-paint them as ultramarines....

as long as your basic marines have bolters and not close combat weapons, you should be fine.

I've heard you can dump them in simplegreen (you can get it at like home depot) overnight will cause the paint to brush off with like a toothbrush, but i've never tried it.

If that's the case, that you're not using BT bitz and such, then just remove any BT insiginia and repaint the shoulderpads to an Ultramarine blue background.

Black marines with blue shoulders and maybe put some new insignia on...

I'd just use the Codex: Space Marines and keep the paint job unless you're tired of their look. One guy at my FLGS does that. He isn't happy with Codex: Black Templars so he just bought the Codex: Space Marines and called it a day. I may get into marines and I'm thinking of doing the same thing.

And btw, the Ultra Marines are gay and the Black Templar are the end all be all.

You can run them as Black Marines using the SM codex, Blood Templars using the BA codex, Dark Templars using the DA codex, or Black Wolves using the SW codex. Just have fun with the models you have until you workout want style you actually like.

He can do that, but he should pull the Black Templar insignia (black Maltese Crosses) at least.
