VAMPIRE COUNTS
20 Zombies (w/ musician and std bearer) = 70 points
20 Skeletal Spearmen (w/ shield, light armour, spears, and full command) = 130 points
Lords: 0% Heroes: 0% Core: 100% Special: 0% Rare: 0%
TOTAL = 200 points
THE CURRENT ARMY:
And, to start us off, I will begin a bit of background for this army. As I complete the units they will get there own piece of history right here.
THE BACKGROUND:
In an instance, his mind was awake. Darkness all around him, but he could feel the presence of new and old dead all around him. Trying to move his body, he found that none of his muscles would respond. How long had it been? Without even trying, he could feel his presence waking the newly dead around him, and with a simple thought they were off to find sustenance to help bring his decrepit body back to vitality. In the meantime he began channeling his thoughts to the older bones in and around the crypt, stationing skeletal soldiers around him to ensure no one bothered him while he replenished. But in the back of his head, so faint that he could barely make it out, the same phrase kept repeating... "he is coming!"
THE SHAMBLING HORDE:
These recently deceased members of Stirland's countryside shamble to do Pieter's bidding. Comprising of farmers and outlying soldiers, Pieter has successfully raised them as guardians to his tomb while he regains his strength.
THE RISEN SPEARS:
Risen from the long dead graves around the tomb encasing Pieter, this silent horde awaits is masters bidding in quiet sentry.

Already shaping up to be just as groovy as your nightgoblins, I've bookmarked this and will be watching with interest as it unfolds.
And I love how the torso in the noose appears fully awake!

I shall be watching this thread. Awesome paintjobs, especially the whole rusted and corroded feel prevalent throughout every model so far.

Ok, I am going to call this first crypt bat done. Let me know what you guys think, as there are two more to paint up...
Meangreenstompa: Thanks mate. I am definitely having a blast with these guys, but to be honest, it took me a year or so to really start to get them to come together. Now, this regiment has started forming up so quick it is hard to stop. Hopefully I will have the full 20 done by the end of the weekend.
Oshunai: Glad you like them mate.

It's very good, I love the model, what range is it from?
Also the base is almost as tasty to take in as the model, reminds me of Bodmin moor in Cornwall.

It looks like a very old-fashioned painting style, similar to GD winnders circa WD 100-120. (And I mean that as a compliment, just in case it is not obvious)

There is a realism to your paint style that's borderline scary. I am also gonna watch this thread. It is just amazing how much life you give figures never the less an army that is undead true life.

"Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds." ~ HK-47 |

The stripes on the standard bearer look fantastic. I really like the use of subdued color in these guys, it's works really well for a zombie horde.
I am interested in seeing how you will pull of the characters. I suspect that this more subtle color choice might not work so well for them, but I'm sure you will do a bang up job.
Also, I have to say it: mold line! The last zombie on the right in the last image has a nasty one on his head.

graypaint: I am horrible when it comes to mould lines... I think I spotted a few when all were said and done. I am getting better at it, but keep at me. For the characters, I think with this sort of army that the characters themselves should be able to be painted crisp without it looking off, but I suppose we will see. I think the basing really ties this stuff together, it looks really nice and fall like.
I have been playing with the idea of doing an Empire army/maybe just one unit with an autumn scheme; your work is very inspirational.
Anyway, keep at it, it looks great!

I started the movement tray for the crypt bats, so far just the plasticard, foam, sackle compound, tree, tomb stones, rocks, and sand. I need to finish building up the wall to match the walls on the left and right bats.
Good Green: Thanks mate... those skellies seem to be taking me an extraordinarily long time to paint though...

Ok, a bit more done on the bat base...
I took it pre primed to show how I do the rock walls, a combination of real rocks and a bit of green stuff to help everything come together.

This army is really coming together nicely! I love love love the muted fall tones. They really bring things together and tie the undead to the earth, giving a good appearance of decaying natural matter. Looking forward to more!

Well, been a while for an update on this thread as well
Anyway, I finished the first two ranks of the skeleton spearmen, and plan to do another 10 to round them out to 20. Almost done with rank 3... then will start rank 4.

Ok, rank 3 finally done...
So... what else are we working on...
Ogre Kingdoms: First rank of Ogre Bulls still under way...
Orcs and Goblins: Almost done with the robes on Skarsnik... also started on some of the metal bits.
Mortals of Chaos and Beasts: Still haven't done anything with either.
Empire: Started the first layer of red on the fourth rank of handgunners.
Dwarfs: Started on the green beards for the second rank of slayers.
Also, thought it might be worth mentioning some of the things I have spent time assembling the past few days: 3 Sepulcheral Stalkers, 1 Ogre Hunter mounted on Stonehorn, 10 Ghouls, 10 Graveguard, 10 Skeleton Warriors, 10 Direwolves, 1 Corpse Cart, Forge World Mounted Ogre General on Rhinox, Scibor Mounted Dwarf General on Bear, and 24 West Wind Imperial Dwarfs.
Anyway, up next for Vamps is the final rank of skeles:
Happy Holidays!
