Another discussion with my friends, we are trying to work out whos who from fantasy in 40k. We all felt that most armiesnhave there futuristic counterparts in 40k even though intended but as a discussion the races. We agreed on:
Empire=Imperial Guard
Bretonions=Space Marines
High Elves=Eldar
Dark Elves=Dark Eldar
Orks=Orks
Tomb Kings=Necrons
Chaos=Chaos Space Marines
Daemons=Daemons

We are stuck on Tau's conterpart though, any ideas?

skaven! they haz the tech.

i was thinking woodelves because of the eagles and the dragons and hawks and so on but it still doesnt fit really :( tau are just so different

Tau don't really have a counterpart as they were created way after 40K stopped being "Fantasy in Space".

Ogre Kingdoms/Lizardmen::Tyranids
Skaven::Tau Empire
Dwarfs::Space Wolves

Skaven keeps getting mentioned, what makes you think that? i honestly cant think of who the tau could be lol

Wood Elves would best fit Harlequins IMO. Thinks like Skaven, BoC, Chaos Dwarves, Ogres, VC, and Lizardmen don't really have 40k counter parts. At the same time, Tyranids and Tau don't really have a Fantasy counterpart.

Wood Elves have a counter-part. They're called Exodite Eldar. Unfortunately, their rules got lost in the translation from 2nd edition to 3rd.

That seemed to happens quite a bit as 40k advances along...

There was actually a discussion about this at my local GW and someone brought up that theres a rather good chance that fantasy is a universe inside 40k... cause it mentions necrons fighting the old ones... but you got to remmember that tau is the youngest race right? so It might not be related to anything... thier ugly faces make me think lizardmen just to keep it on subject

yes... well I mean when I think lizardmen I think blue faced people who think their little ruins and rituals and aztec gods is the way (exadurating... mispelt that word me thinks ) and when I think tau I think blue faced people who think they is the best and there way is THE WAY... lol not really but really tau is the youngest race so I dont see a conter part... Ogres = Ogryn, skaven = dem rat people (drawling a blank on names)

Lol fair enough haha i cant come back to that i've already stated this above but i though woodelves at first (i forgot about exodite eldar) due to the hawks, eagals, dragons and floating leaves lol
