looking at the new Space Hulk terminators and Genestealers I'm impressed with the figures dynamic poses.
My question to the forum is would you prefer that you are able to get boxes of figs "pre posed" ala the Spulk figs or the new Privateer plastics? Or do you prefer the ability to set the poses yourself like most of the troops currently available.
While personalized does not eliminate the "dynamic poses" things like a terminator tearing up the floor are much more difficult to do with the current kits then your average hobbiest can manage.
Me... I'm torn.

I'd really like to have the option. As unrealistic as it is, It would be super cool to be able to buy a "box of dynamically posed terminators" for every legion and chapter, along with still being able to get the base kit. If I *had* to choose just one, the Spulk Termis looks so much better, and I would say they are higher "quality." It's not like I can't personalize a dynamic pose anyway.

i think i'd prefer a little from column A and a little from column B. perhaps if they had 2 termies from a box of 5 that came mostly dynamically posted (like the spulk ones where you can still choose an arm) and the rest being normal lego variety.

That'd be great. As nice as it is to have all the options, sometimes the figures take forever to assemble and in some cases don't even look as cool as you'd imagined they would when dryfitting them.

Worst thing about the dynamic poses are the duplicates.
How many termies in the army are going to be pulling up the floor?
Unless of course they are all tugging on a carpet at the same time, allezhooopla!!

I much prefer rank and file troops in generic poses which I can repose myself.
Ideally the guns should be separate from the hands. I'm not so concerned about the leg positions as long as I can change the guns, arms, waist and head.
The Tau FW box has a good selection of leg positions and the waists and heads are easily reposeable, but the guns are moulded onto the arms.
One of the great benefits of using polystyrene is to present an easily adaptable kit.
There is more of a role for Special Character models to have dynamic poses, so they will stand out on the battlefield.

I agree with this. If you are going to have more than one of each model, the dynamic poses lose some of their impact. The multi-part kits allow more flexibility for the rank and file.

I think it would be great if we had a choice amongst the two options, jgemrich. I know the multi part kits have ot be more expensive to produce, but if I had the option of rounding out some squads with pre-posed miniatures for a lesser price I would be all over it like a fat kid on ice cream.

I prefer the dynamic pose .
Because honestly "personalized" poses are not very unique either. They are still limited to what makes them look natural. Thus unless you come up with something really wacky , they'll still look the same , or very very similar.

Plenty of dynamic poses are already available but they're mostly metal.
As for plastic kits a mix of both would be great and GW already does this in the plastic Catachan command kit where the some of the torsos and legs are one piece and have a relatively dynamic pose. For box kits like the Carnifex and the rumored plastic Hive Tyrant I think more dynamic poses would be better.

I don't know if anyone even notices if you duplicate poses on the tabletop. I've actually switched to *only* painting up and assembling 3 piece Chaos Marines, because they're so much easier to transport, take up less space, and never, ever break. My champs are all cool conversions, and I usually do something special with my special weapons or icons, but my bolter dudes are there to die anyway. All my Plague marines are now GSed 3 piece Chaos Marines too (hell of a lot cheaper that way)

I personally like Dynamic poses more, for the most part. I don't do too much converting really, just sculpting random mutations on my Chaos Legionnaires.

I prefer personalized models. No matter how awesome the paintjob is on a static model, it never really has that "this is MINE" sort of feel to it. I don't exactly know how to explain that, but basically when you worked on the positioning (even if it's something as simple as a twist of the head, canting of the weapon, or other such conversion) you can really claim it to be your own. Personal touch, I suppose.
Don't get me wrong though, the dynamic poses (especially on the Space Hulk models), are amazing... but once you've seen one Leon, you've pretty much seem them all.

Static all the way. I'm confident that the sculptors have a better idea of what looks cool and plausible than I do when it comes to posing. Good sculptors do, anyway. Also, having a multipose model inflicts huge limitations to what you can do with models.

A some one who put together 90 LatD Mutants so that each one was different (and most have names), and as someone who built a Deathwatch army with specific models for specific Chapters, and as someone who has been slowly collecting bitz for a Crusading Marine army where I intend to not have a single duplicate model - give me multi-pose all the fething way.
None of this static nonsense...

Fixed for bitterness.
I like having personalised poses, but snap-fit models are good for rounding out squads and the SH models are too pretty for me to desecrate with my filthy x-acto knife.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Oh rounding out things yeah. No issues there, especially in Warhammer (and especially if you play Tomb Kings - feth Skeletons are a bitch to put together) and you need the back ranks to just line up and be removed as casualties.

I prefer the personalised touch.
This is due to the limiting nature of dynamically posed models. Sooner or later, the dynamics of the pose will soon be diluted somewhat by repetition in an army. Multi-part kits offer variety, and with a little skill, dynamics as well.

I err towards personalised, but it sometimes it really falls down when you're trying to rank models up in Fantasy.
Halberdiers are a nightmare in this respect... although this is possibly because they're not personalised enough!
