Hola, I currently have 1000 pts of Guard worked out and as I'm planning the next 1000 pts, I had some thoughts about changing the next two vet squads load out.
Here's what I currently had planned:
HQ
Primaris Psyker
ELITE
PBS - 9 pyskers, Overseer, Chimera w/ Hvy Flamer Hull mount
TROOPS
4 x Vet squads, Grenadiers, 3 meltas, 6 shotguns, Sarge with Shotgun in Chimera with Hvy Flamer hull mount, Hvy Stubber
HEAVY SUPPORT
3 Hydra Flak Tanks
2 LR Exec w/ Plasma Sponsons, hvy flamer hull mounts
2 Medusas w/ Enclosed Compartment, Hvy Flamer Hull mounts
I played a few test games and have thought about changing 2 of the vet squads to this load out:
Vet squad, Grenadiers, 3 Grenader Launchers, Hvy Weapon Team with an AC, 4 lasguns, Sarge, Chimera with Hvy Stubber
I'd use the extra 10 pts to put a Hvy Stubber on the PBS Chimera.
It seems like those two squads would be objective sitting monsters, with a heavy stubber, Multilaser, Heavy Bolter, Autocannon and 3 Grenade launchers in one platform.
Would this be a little more balanced or is would the melta spam be the way to go?

As I understand it every Guard army HAS to take 1+ company command platoons, two infantry platoons, and one command platoon.
I may be wrong.

ARRRGH NO!
You don't need a Company command at all, any HQ choice is fine. If you want to take infantry squads, they are part of a platoon, which needs 1 platoon command squad and 2+ infantry squads. The OP is taking veteran squads, which are seperate, independant choices.
As far as the weapons go, your loadout depends on the people you face. Lots of the regulars here probably go weak at the knees at the thought of veterans without melta guns, and if you face land raiders, you do want some melta guns! Just try it out and see if you like it,maybe a mix of squads would be best. We can't say without knowing a lot about your opponents and table.
Your heavy support is very strong, all good choices individually, but it's all packed in. You've essentially got 3 units, so you can only shoot at 3 things a turn, and there are plenty of units, like fire dragons, some IG melta-packed units, sternguard or chaos terminators dropping in with combimeltas, that can smash a squadron of tanks as easily as one. Hope I'm getting my point across, the squadrons are making your very important heavy firepower damn vulnerable. Maybe take some guns from the fast attack section to spread it out a bit?
