Ok, given that we have plastics for the Steam Tank, Dragon, Stegadon and now the Doomwheel (with lots of potential slots in their respective army lists to make sure they sell), GW seems to be encouraging battlefields that are dominated by war machines and monsters.

Can Warhammer Apocalypse be far away?

I certainly hope not. I really wish that they would swing back and focus on the infantry aspect of the game. Though it is much easier painting-wise!

For those not paying attention:

WFB Siege -> 40k Planetstrike
WFB Mighty Empires -> 40k Planetary Empires
40k Apocalypse -> WFB Legendary Battles

Interesting that none of the WFB things really took off as far as I know.

OOH! could someone tell me what it was like before the Warmachines, when there was just infantry?

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

Just... infantry? Was there ever a time? Pre-6th(when the big items trend somewhat started), it was all hero-hammer, all the time.

Maybe there was this idyllic time before 5th? Because I remember mapping out an Empire Army that was composed almost entirely of an Emperor Dragon and some shooty infantry.

There's always been cannons and beasties, but these new kits are relatively easy to put together compared to their metal counterparts of yesteryear. Coupled with the Army Books that favour their inclusion to boost sales of these kits, I wondered whether there would be any Apocalypse style release for Fantasy.

I am fully aware of the existance of Legendary Battles, but that after all was only a WD article (now a PDF), not a big rulebook with lots of datasheets.

Have the Siege rules been rolled into 7th Edition? I don't see anything for them when searching the GW site.

I reckon that because the force structure isn't as limited as in 40k the potential for huge battles is there in the current rules and army books so there is no need for Warhammer Apoc.

The only difference with Legendary battles is being able to bring Allies and the Warmachine/Monster 1 per side "formation" where multiples of the same only count towards their Organization selection once, ie. as many Giants as you want counting as 1 Rare.
