Because the tools and paints GW sells are generally slightly overcosted and marginally worse than competing products.

Seldom has a post so completely demonstrated ignorance, poor spelling and grammar, ridiculous over statements, and that elusive quality known only as "noob" so perfectly.

Really, it's like brutalist architecture: it's not pretty to look at, but you have to respect the craftsmanship.

Lol, you seem to have picked the worst models there, there was a different lord of Change sculpted, also the Land speeder changed from the Rogue Trader version version during this time period. I'm trying to find pictures of said models lol

I can get that through the Warstore at a discount and have enough paint/flock/glue to last me most of a year, barring starting an entire army from scratch.

Your point is moot. It's a "deal" for people new to the hobby and wanting to have every color available to them, or people who have a FLGS with a discount program/know that you can order from not just GW.

Please try to learn how to use the built in spell-checker and automatic warning about all lower case posts. Your post is breaking forum rules.

Most people don't hate GW stuff.

A lot of it is good, but it is overpriced. You pay for convenience.

There are lots of good options for tools, paints, rules and everything else. If GW went bust tomorrow, there are plenty of other games to play. If you stick around Dakka, you could pick up on them.

If you don't see the relation between two similarly priced starter sets, I don't know how to help you.

And bear in mind, Squadron's listing already has it discounted.

What's good about the GW paint set is you buy that and you can paint a lot of models such as SMs and vehicles just like a "paint by numbers" picture.

You just follow the instructions to put Fortress Grey here, Snot Green there, and Devlan Mud wash, and you get a good result.

If you're a more experienced painter, it is quickly obvious that GW paints are generally standard colours which they renamed to make it difficult to recognise. That makes it easy to buy cheaper paints elsewhere. Also, as you gain experience, you get better at mixing your own colours out of fewer, more primary paints. This gives you more variety of available colours and saves money.

Luna...

The point is that it's a purchase you'll really only make once, and make several smaller purchases as your paints run out. I've STILL got some of the paints from when I won a Mega Paint Set from my FLGS in 2004.

Look , i know what ur trying to do ok? You want to bate me to list you why i think GW products are awful , thus fulfilling the point of this thread.

Alright , i guess i'll play devil's advocate again . " Why hate GW products "

1) They are usually atleast 50% over priced .
2) They are usually 50% the quantity or quality of the other products.
3) Sure , lets not forget to mention 80% of the GW paint pot owners have their paints dry out within 2 years.

What you ARE paying for is:

The convenience of :
-matching color code
-available in your GW shop ( though any hobby shop or art supply would also have the better counter parts )
-easier fit in with other die hard GW product supporters.

/end complaint.

And the funniest thing i keep hearing about these GW "deals" are always :

"Well you get tons of saving compared to their separate price " ok, this is TRUE .
but still does not change the facts i listed .

Thats like saying " i'll sell you this bucket of sand for $100 . but for a nice deal , 50% off! i'll sell it for $50 "

Great deal sir .

Do you really think there's some kind of GW paint cult?

As for your points:

You're right, they do tend to be overpriced. That still doesn't change the fact that it matches the model that Killkrazy put forth:

It's a way to get new players hooked in, and help them then and there. Not everyone starts by using forums or 4chan and finding out there's a whole, wide world of stuff out there.

4chan useful? sure . When half of the hobby info in /TG/ is posted by me ?
the other half been people flaming each other for fan boys .

Funny , i thought this thread was discussing GW product.
You do realize its painfully obvious when the thing you brought up are about me , not about the thread?

Anti anime? thats interesting , i can care less if people like anime or not.

So, my starting off with a comparison between two similarly priced painting sets, which you took to be as some kind of thinly veiled insult at you wasn't discussion about their product?

Or was it when you got oversensitive about the fact that some people DO find out about Warhammer via mediums other than hobby forums and FLGSes?

Since Dawn of War and Warhammer Online were released, do you think that GW has seen a spike in sales? Or do you think that people just always magically stumble across the hobby after magically learning about discounting sites?

*Sigh , i guess you really dont get it .

You been able to tell me my point is moot just from me linking a GW product to OP explains enough.

You are either psychic or , i dont know what you are ^^

And yes , i love things about GW , and i hate things about GW.

So for some reason because i hate somethings they do , that automatically makes me anti GW ? as quoted from you " whenever theres a pro-GW thread "

Like i have been telling you. This thread is fine with us just discussing the products.
It doesnt require your "expertise" about me , that you keep throwing into the discussion.

Grow up mister , we can either discuss the product , or we can continue on about your biased views on me.

The point was moot due to the fact that it's not JUST GW who has overpriced painting sets. If a new player were to be shown both of those sets, the GW would seem a far better deal, even at list price, due to the fact that it's not JUST 3 brushes and the paints(which, remember, Vallejo uses the tri-color system essentially: a light shade, a base shade, and a darker shade for each color)--but all the things you'd need when just starting out, including tubs of static grass and glue.

Ya maybe you do. But before that , just explain this first:

How do you get all these:
Kanluwen wrote:Luna:

Your point is moot. It's a "deal" for people new to the hobby and wanting to have every color available to them, or people who have a FLGS with a discount program/know that you can order from not just GW.

It all comes from tone, Luna.

Being a smartass, and posting in a thread where the first post is "why do people hate on GW's tools and paints" with a reply of:

"This is for you: <mega GW paint set that is intended for beginners>" rather than making an actual, valid response.
