The GT has pretty much gone away for good sad to say. They dont plan on bringing them back as they see no monitary value in it for them

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Yeah, not sure where you're located, but please check out The Mechanicon (www.theMechaniCon.com). I think we have something like $3500 in prizes, so it might make your trip worthwhile!

I'd also like to add that them going away is not a bad thing. I've been MUCH more impressed with Adepticon and the Big Waaagh that I've been to the last couple of years then I ever was with the GT's put on by GW. In general to GW employee's it is a job. The players and tournament organizers at these tournaments are dedicated and supportive in a way that any employee really can't be.

I disagree with that. I like GW tourneys because you know what you are going to get, it isn't flavored by the organizers' perception in the same way.

I am sure to get flamed for saying this, but that is the way I feel. Now, that being said, I am going to the Wild West Shootout this weekend and am looking forward to it. I just think any large competitive 40k events going away (be it GWGT, Adepticon, Wild West, Da Big Waaagh or even localish con rtts) is a bad thing for me personally and for the hobby as a whole.

Hey Somnicide, I'll be at the Wild West Shootout too, and I agree on your take, any loss is a bad thing.

@dracomere - Mechanicon looks like it's shaping up nicely. My Baltimore GT Doubles tournament partner is involved in the organization, so it should be very focused.

Cheers
Dave

Ah it will be great to see you again. We talked for a few minutes at the Vegas GT - I played the all khorne daemon army against your Ultramarines generaled by Clay.

I started a thread up to get an idea of the dakkites going http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/260844.page if you want to add yourself.

ROFL, I'm certainly not going to flame you Somnicide. We all bring our own background of events into it about why we think things.

I see your arguement that them not being there is a loss, no doupt. I was simply saying that I have preferred my Indy GT environment to my official GT environment.

I say this just as I prefer my Firebase or Freeboota magaize to White Dwarf. Games Workshop has the capacity to do something amazing with both white dwarf and the GT's, but they don't.

Enjoy the Wild West, it looks like it will be amazing!

I will definitely agree with you there, prodigalson, on the webzines - I have a sub to white dwarf and though it is getting a bit pricy, I still enjoy the feel and production of it, but I also love the webzines you mentioned and any others I can find. For example the BFG zine warp rift is really awesome and I haven't played that game in nearly 5 years.

Bit yeah, in my opinion, anything that gives more opportunities for people to meet new gamers not necessarily in their area and see awesome armies is a good thing. The loss of any of those things is a bad thing. :-)

If you want a large event this year you have The Alamo for WHFB or The MechaniCon for 40K. Both are the first weekend in November. The Wild West event is this coming weekend.

If you want a large, Grand Tournament style event, then you need to look at the Independent Tournaments. If you want the two day, multi game event, you will not have many choices. The options you have to choose from are either established or new events and they all seem to be top notch quality. Location of these events may be the deciding factor for you.

I have been chatting with the guys running a lot of the large events around the country and it really will be in our hands to shape the future. We have been working hard to bring a fantastic event to our area and we have gotten a lot of support from clubs, retailers and manufacturers. I encourage anyone out there to do the same so that the community can prosper.

From what I hear, GW will roll out the details on their website next month for their plans for the next year and a half. Waiting for info is tough but it is the situation we have. You can be sure that we will be surprised!

There is a big difference from an event at a hotel and convention center to something in a store or a cheap rental site. The term GT is thrown around a lot these days. Some 3 game, one day events at a store use the term as well as 3 day events at a hotel. I have been to GW events that have been horrible and some that are fantastic, so I have to disagree somewhat with the statement that you know what you get. The same holds true for events at stores, clubs and conventions. There is a big difference in how the organizers approach the event and each can be good or bad.

Our club is sacrificing our play time to bring something special to the area as are all the other Independent events. Please remember that although you may not agree 100% with the way the Indy is run, you may not have an alternative. It will work much better to support an event and have the ability for your feedback to affect the next one.

Our club has members who have attended the Baltimore GT's since they started and that has been the main focus of our hobby. We love the big events where the top gamers and modelers come together and form relationships that shape how the hobby evolves. Hopefully we all will have a much better community and be able to reap the rewards of great events.

So, Tironum, the obvious question here is where is the event you are working on going to be? ;-)

Caught info today from the boards on The Miniatures Page. Filter through and you will see the posts by Duncan Adams, the Events Manager, and Bob Giglio, Convention Director, that detail the plans for all 3 core GW games systems to have tournaments at Historicon 2010.

http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=182330

Historicon 2010 will be at the Baltimore Convention Center next year from July 8-11.

http://www.historicon.org/HIST2010/theme2010.asp

This sounds great and I am very excited to see new ideas come out. I can't wait to see what else is in store!

Also I love checking out Historicon. I have only been there as a tourist for the most part, to check out all the great miniatures but I will try to make it to play sometime soon. Maybe this is the reason to start going for the whole 4 days!

If anyone is interested I would advise that you reserve a hotel room as soon as possible.
