LotR license is set to expire within the next 2 years and GW will not renew it. In fact LotR is losing GW a bucket load of money considering how literally no one plays it. Good riddance

What will replace it?

Personally I really hope it will be Battlefleet Gothic. I loved that game and I was very sad to see it die. Furthermore its part of the very popular 40k world. GW could make a lot of money off this if they just market it.

Any thoughts?

Yup. So the perry twins don't die from OMGIDONTKNOWHATTODONOW syndrome. Re-doing BGF would be awesome. Or even spending some time and money into epic.

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

Yeah but EPIC? I mean if someone has a Apoc points wise 40k army will he/she be REALLY motivated into doing the exact same thing over again at a smaller scale for Epic?

Also those tiny minis for Epic are freaking impossible to paint details on.

Battlefleet Gothic is the WAY TO GO.

hyperbole, LOTR license is renewed or being renewed for the hobbit movie whenever that comes out.

Perry's make more off of their own minis now than they do working with GW. They do the LotR minis because they love the setting and the minis.

LotR still outsells Warhammer Fantasy. When GW "finally" gives up LotR, do not assume they will have/make a "3rd" core game to replace it with.

I didn't even know LoTR was going to get axed. But, one and a bit months ago, I thought GW was going mighty fine and things would keep on going like they are, damn, what a gullible prick I was.
I think that Inquisitor might take over as a the third game, they sure as hell are easier to paint!

Umm... what do you mean not making money? According to last year's reports, LOTR accounts for ~12% of their profits. Just because you don't play it or see it played in stores you play in doesn't mean no one's buying it. It's actually doing pretty well in one store here.

i would love it if the worked with bandai to do a Gundam baced games. but it would need to be a new gundam universe for the game as the tv series tie up the stories for seed, wing, and 00. and the orignal series is full of side stories.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I'd rather a regularly rotating cycle of specialist games rather than a 'third' game.

Anyway, we'll get a heap of new Hobbit releases for a few years, that bubble will burst, Kirby will mention it in every end-of-year-speech for the following four years, and we'll get slugged with a couple of massive price increases because of it.

Good times!

Is LoTR getting axed? What authority do you have to back this theory up? Besides, not good riddance, I play LotR and it accounts for at least thirty percent of the profit in WA. Even if it does get axed, they will keep buyin the license for it and then the one for the Hobbit. It is too good to loose.

I also play LotR, I certainly find the 40k gameplay much more sophisticated, but LotR still has some nice models.

I'm reasonably certain that is already the case actually, with the groundwork for the Hobbit license 99% done..if not already done. If it hasn't been then that's only due to the legal situation the film has been caught in. The relationship between the various parties is pretty cool : the GW guys get to be in the movies and New Line Cinema started using some of the art and design work created by GW. The specific shade of blue that GW used for their stuff New Line started using as well as they liked it.

I think GW are more likely to try to create further expansions along the lines of Apocalypse and Planetstrike for 40K and WHFB, rather than making entire new games.

If that happens, Dark Future is going to make a comeback.

I doubt it'll happen, as LoTR isn't really shrinking any faster than the other franchises.

I'd still like Dark Future back though.

Actually, you made a statement("LOTR isn't making any money") combined with a question("yet they continue to make new models for it?"), at least grammatically. If you meant for both parts to be a question, and not stating something with an attached question, you would have needed to make them separate sentences. As it reads, you aren't asking if it's not making money.

Actually, it's in reply to the OP, so no, it was a question.

If LoTR gets discontinued I would like to see them put some more effort into updating old codices and army books and some new models.

Seriousely though... I would like to see Mordheim or Necromunda redone.

Read your post again and you'll see it DOES ask a question, but it also states something as fact.

See, the great thing about English, is you can do 2 things at the same time in the same sentence, sometimes accidentally if you don't watch your grammar and proper punctuation.

I know my grammar, you just arn't reading it in the proper context. The "Fact" I was (re)stating was the "fact" that the original poster stated.

Example:

"The game sucks"

"The game sucks yet you play it anyways?"

So please don't give me an English lesson

The fact that he said, 'LotR is loosing GW a bucketload of money' shows that he's just making stuff up, rather than actually bothering to determine if there are any facts to base his opinion on. Go go posting from the gut!
