Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I'm thinking of painting my Guard tanks, but the very thought of painting over 60 tanks by hands is making me quite worried. So, I thought, airbrushing might be a good way to do masses of tanks quickly. Then I thought about camo patterns and whatnot, and thought about using modelling/masking tape. So I undercoat the tanks black, base-coat them in a colour, and then using masking tape to make one or two layers of different colours, cutting the tape into different sizes, shapes and patterns. Then, after that's done, I can do dry brushing and picking out weapon and insignia details, etc.

But before doing that, I wondered if anyone else had experience with this, and knew of good ways/bad ways to go about it. Do you start with darker colours or lighter colours? What should I do/not do?

Thanks!

There are a ton of great airbrush resources about... here, warseer, and CMON for mini specific information.

As for masking tape. Most folks seem to really love the Tamiya tapes... because they come in various sizes and have very low tac.

I've been using the Scotch-3M blue painters tape "for Delicate surfaces". It's much much cheaper and you can find it at any home depot or hardware/paint store. Just be sure to get the "Delicate surfaces" one - it has the orange band.

Find an airbrushing book on amazon for AFV's.
EG I have the following book which has lots of how to's on coma patterns (mostly for planes but they do translate to tanks) -
Airbrushing & Finishing Scale Modelss by Brett Green
Publisher - Ospery Masterclass
ISBN 978-1-84603-199-1

I think it's worth more than the 3 stars it has here
