Hey all,
I love the idea and fluff behind Elysians, but I'm not so keen on the FW models. Don't get me wrong, they're cool, but I'd rather convert up some of my own.
With this in mind, I figured the meltavets I use to drop behind enemy lines with my Vendetta would be prime candidates for a squad of Drop Troops. I used some SM scout legs for another squad of veterans and I figured they might do well for big bulky grav chute chestpieces combined with regular cadian arms and legs. I also really liked the shotgun conversion I saw on here from ages ago so figured I would steal that idea as well. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
Oh and the colour scheme will fit with the rest of my army. Black carapace and boots, white/gray/dark gray camo on the cloth bits.
Here is what I have so far:
My questions to you good people are the following -
1) Is there anything else I can do to the scout chestpiece (other than filing off the skull in the middle) to make it a little less Space Marine?
2) Suggestions for the grav chute attachments to the back of the chestpieces? I'm not terrified of green stuff but if anyone can think of a good, plentiful bitz substitute I might have on hand that would be perfect
3) Heads. I'm leaning towards Pig Iron but as Luna most delicately put, perhaps there are better heads out there? I'm thinking full visor, rebreather, that sort of thing.
4) Possible dynamic poses. I've obviously already assembled them mostly, but a few creative adjustments could make for some cool 'landing' or 'dropping' poses. However, I've never done anything like that so suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks for looking!

CSM backpacks resemble Grav Chutes in a way - could modify those in some way
And you could also sculpt them with Berets instead of helmets.
Berets FTW!

I use these helmets in my Storm trooper conversions (some of which also use scout bits).

The pig iron heads will look good on em.
Nice conversion with the flamer nozzle, never thought that would look as good as it does.
The legs need some knee pads or something to beef them up enough to match the torsos tho....

I use the same closed visor pig iron helmets on my vets.
I also agree that they need some leg beefing. At the moment the torsos are just a bit too big in comparison to the legs. Some extra armour will fix that right up.

I like them DoW. I Just started a heavily kitbashed Elysian army, here is a link if you want to check them out http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/260340.page .
If you are looking for more dynamic poses, I say stay away from the Cadian legs. Try the scout legs. What I am doing for the my Cadians are Catachan legs, they are less rank and file, and you can mix in the heavy trooper legs to get kneeling poses.
PS you are only about 4 hours from me, when I get an army of the ground and running we will have to meet up!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Thanks for all the comments! I really appreciate everyone taking the time to give me some good ideas.
I can't take credit for the shotguns, I did already steal them from someone else... but I believe he only put one hanging from his Rough Rider saddle. I honestly can't remember who that was, but they get full credit! Simple, and I think pretty effective.
I'm liking those closed visor helmets but I think the sergeant might need the ol' open helmet to give him some personality. That Metallifan Drop Troop looks pretty badass! Shame about the face, but hopefully we can fix that
Old chaos backpacks sound like an excellent idea! I actually have a couple of those (unfortunately not x10) and I think I can probably can use them as a template or just copy them with GS.
If I try this again, I may have to go with Catachan legs over Cadians. The way the chestpiece attaches to the legs makes them look like they have little skirts. Not really the look I was going for. Agreed that some kneepads/leg plates are in order. I'll have a look at some stormtroopers and see if I can come up with a good plan.
Again, thank you all for the responses. I'll get cracking and update as soon as possible!
