You can stick to XP for now.

7 is like what Vista was supposed to be.

Bear in mind that you will have to do a full install of 7 if you use XP as you can't just 'upgrade' the OS (so back up everything you want to keep).

My next computer will probably come with 7, but that'll be after this one dies.

You can, run Windows XP on win 7 - they allow that.

Though you need a full install, instead of upgrade, so you need to backup your files.


Win 7 is nice, i get it free since im in computer science at my university - and just happened to be 15 mins from bill gates =D haha

I have mine free as well.....not legal of course but it works, the crack works and I've installed updates. Noticeably faster than Vista and less of those annoying "windows needs your permission to continue". That was the worst part about Vista (and it also rapes my system alot harder than Win7 and XP).

If you have a friend or family member with Win7 then play around a bit with it. My system is 5 years old but Win7 is notably faster (even with just 2G RAM). I can only imagine what it'll run like on my new system I'm gonna build with student loan.

So, for unexperienced people, that feature did make a bit of sense.

Is it called Windows 7 because it is 7 times as expensive than the last version? Or perhaps because 7 is the number of seconds it took for someone to find all the security glitches and exploit them?

Ah well, I will stick with XP for the time being... until they start releasing stuff you can only run on 7 that I want to be able to use... and until they have fixed most of the bugs... kind of like they do for all the new windows versions. The gits.

Respectfully, why would I give a ? Unless I am getting a new computer I'm not actually spending money on an OS, thats nuts. When I buy a computer I buy the OS preloaded with the cheapest option available. Its like having a discussion about the latest gypsum material from China. Edit I'm not trying to denigrate computer geeks-its directed at MS and the add buzz. Tere are just more interesting things out there than MS's latest abortion that I generally have to buy. Its like gas. I don't care if it has technron, fairie dust or whatever bS your marketing guys want me to think means s t. It doesn't. What matters is the price of a gallon of the stuff.

I love macs, but my next computer is prolly gonna be a pc. macs are just too pricey these days and I can build my own pc for half the price :( Though, the Mac G5 I have that's 6 years old is still going strong. Never had a PC last more than like 3 before needing lots of upgrading...

A mac is just a PC with a chip on the mother board. Seriously they're only good if you're an artist. Otherwise there are ways to get around the code that stops OS from running on PC if you really wanted it.

I wish I had enough exp to use linux, but well I put all my exp in console gaming.

Odd that this came out the day Vista sank with all hands on my relatively new (6mths) PC! Some would say it was my fault for trying to load old games onto it, I'll blame Bill and pre-programmed obsolecence!

Got a new PC a couple weeks ago with the free upgrade. I'll probably load up 7 and see how it works tonight. Be back then with any comments on the system.
