Right... I've basically been playing 40k recently (nidz) and entered a competition at my GW. I was planning on using WOC but I promised I guy I know that ill give him a game with my ogres. I really regret that now... SO this is my position and after labouring over a notebook im still stuck. I'll give you my list but i dont have many units. I bassically used these for painting comps so alot of wat i got is heros and lords. First ill tell you what ive got. Here we go...

probably around 24-32x noblars (last resort, they've probably found there way into my couch, bed and fridge by now)

I don't know much about the Ogres but it seems to me, people have been focusing on suiting up the butchers. That gut magic can make or break the charge, I guess.

What kinda toys does he get? a new set of teeth maybe, a spice gnoblar?

I've been seeing people give the heroes a lot of gear and leave the "troops" pretty bare.

i was thinking that but i was stuck on what to use. halfling cook book?

I have ogres but i'm not sure about how to make 500/1000 lists.
a single butcher that costs 130points might be a waste if the enemy dispels his spells.

and on the 500p list i would reccomend that you take 40 gnoblars instead of banners in the units.

500 is extremely tough for ogres I find, and I think your list is about there, though I'd much rather see bellowers on both units than I would standards. And actually I'm with Fallen here, ditch the standards to buy 20 gnobs, and ditch the sword gnobs on the bruiser to buy the bulls a bellower.

Now 1000 point games I enjoy quite a bit with ogres, partially because your enemies don't have quite as much tasty stuff as they do at 2k+. Your list is about there, but again I think it needs bellowers, and that butcher could use some gear to help him out in his solo carrier. How about this, done mostly by dropping 1 leadbelcher (3 belchers is a rough unit to use right, while 120 point 2 belchers are versatile and delicious):

Do you really need the tenderizer? At 1000 I usually go with the siegebreaker or a mundane gw, and put the points into a ward for the big guy and/or fistful of laurels (cause I suck at rolling breaks ... with the laurels too, actually ). In this list above the ToP is on the butcher cause I had 15 points. The real point is the bangstick to give more of a magic phase.

I think with the tournament im just trying to have fun more that anything else! Although its a tourney im playing with people i know and just want to have a good game but as it is a tourney i still want to win. What i like about ogre lists are that there massive well... ogres! playing against, at a 500pt level, reasonably weak units. It might be easier to tell you what im playing against though. My main opponent will probably be chaos but i play them mysellf so i should be able to counter their tactics. now the hard one is an all night goblin army. he feilds large units of gobbies and some spider riders to back them up , sometimes followed by some spear chukas. now that i think about it i might try the list again for the 500pts. And btw i cant find any of my gnoblars.

Butchers can't be general, unless you guys are playing some houserule for 500 point games that lets that happen

Also on the tenderizer, how do you figure it gives you more attaks? Big T multiplies the wounds done by D3 - as in, a single model takes D3 wounds X the number of times you wounded it, which doesn't do much to single wound models (apart from a challenge, where the overkill matters). If you're out for raw attaks you've got some options, and can save a bundle on, say, taking brace of handguns + great weapon. 5 S5 attaks or 4 S7 attaks as needed, and you can shoot things occasionally too (like fanatics )

So if I raised an eyebrow at the tenderizer @ 1000 points, here's me raising both seeing it @ 500 points! I'd definitely prefer those 50 points put into bellowers, a mundane gw and a piece of nice kit for the bruiser (fistful / a ward) than the monster-killing-challenge-overkilling smasher

On the 1000 pointer, the butcher can only take 50 points of gear, so I'd either put that talisman o' protection on the bruiser, or give the bruiser fistful of laurels instead. Did I mention I like rerolling breaks?

Well, more illegal stuff with the new 1000 pointer. You must take 1+ unit of bulls, and you also can't take 2 rares under 2k ...

I still like bellowers for the 500 (as in, no sword gnobs, but bellower for bulls), but props on more ogres for crumping.
