It mentions there the Chimera went direct only. What the heck?

Does that mean its getting redone or what? I highly doubt its getting redone, maybe recut sprues, because of FW, but maybe someone knows the full story.

Perhaps it was just a screw up while reformatting its page? I think the Chimera would be a good cantidate for a resculpt. the LR too, for that matter...

I doubt the Chimera is getting redone, the new codex art showed the old girl in her current design, nothing changed or added as with the Hellhound or artillery tanks.

I'd assume they're just repackaging it and removing the IG accessory sprue.

You do have a bit of a point. There is no way in HELL they are redoing the wartrakks and such. In the Ork dex they are the old school versions still. It makes me laugh tho, seeing all the nice shiny new Ork stuff, and those old ass vehicles

There's a little "Direct Only" icon they use on the page showing everything in a section that looks like a box with Citadel written on it inside a circle. See the Space Marines HQ section re: Khan and Vulkan for an example.

On the US page, at least, the Chimera lacks this icon.

Couldnt GW just make a new top hatch for the hellhound kit and call it a day? I really hate the old IG vehicles... moslty due to the tracks and 400 parts

Penitent Engine (from witch hunters) is Direct only but it hasn't the icon.

I am gonna say there just going to get rid of the accessory sprue. Then charge $10-$15 to get it in the bitz section on GW's website. I just got 3 Chimeras of the weekend so I am hoping they do not remake the Chimera.

Yeah there are TONS of things that are direct but dont have the icon.

The new Chimera kit was rumored to have the option to make a 'command' variant; so maybe thats what will take the accessory kit's place.

Here's hoping that this means the new Chimera kit is coming soon and that they update its design a little bit.

Well, they have already redone half of the chimera. Note how the other sprue has common Chimera bits and the other has all the Hellhound specific bits. A complete redone Chimera is only one sprue away from finished. Make another sprue for Basilisk bits and suddenly there's plenty of old sprues that can be removed from production.

Currently, Chimera and Basilisk use a total of 8 different sprues (not including the Vehicle accessory sprue). These could be easily replaced with a total of 3 sprues, one of which has already been made. I could see GW going into this direction.

GW will probably redo it. Its just not the highest priority. As pointed out, with the hellhound its 50% done, so it wouldn't be too hard to finish it.

I can still get chimeras from my wholesaler.

Though they have 3 in stock, there is nothing on the pre order list for new chimeras.

I hope it's because they're gonna update the model soon. One thing I hate about the old model is the fact that the treads never line up right for me, so if they're just taking the accessory sprue with the track guards out of the box, then I won't be buying any. I need to have track guards to hide the big gap I always seem to have in the treads. I like the idea of separate wheels and tracks from a modeling perspective, but the new russ just went together so good. Hopefully they'll do the same with the new chimera eventually.

Doesn't affect me, i have to direct order everything anyway as a result of GW york being about 2 by 4 meters in size

Is it possible they're low on the chasis sprues because they're coming out with some of the other Imperial armor they haven't launched yet? I mean aren't there a LOT of unreleased armor units that use the Chimera chasis? Just looking through the codex I can see the hydra flak tank, griffon mortar launcher, all the basilisk variants.

I'd imagine all of these models would be snapped up at launch by eager IG players, so cutting back on chimera's to ensure enough hulls would make sense...

It's not direct only. At least, I'm able to find it on the shelf at my FLGS and GW stores.
