My friend who is on here (chief librarian vaako) has avery good grey knight army which i cant beat.
If i have; 20 orks, 10 nobs, 2 warbosses, 1 trukk and 1 deffkopta
and he has; 5 grey knights, 5-10 assault marines and a leader and an assasin.
What tactics could i use to beat him or at least kill more than 1 grey knight....

Ugh. Thats a tough matchup for ya. How many points are you playing, because at rough glance it looks stacked towards the marine end? Either way, I would put one war boss with the 20 boyz and 1 warboss with the 10 nobz. Equip everyone who can get one with a power klaw. Use terrain and the 20 boy mob to cover the advance of the nobs. Outflank the deffkopta and use it to harass and tie down in the later turns. The trukk is good only for a distraction really.

Is his list even legal? Or do you mean that he has 5 Grey Knight Terminators, 5-10 Grey Knights, an Inquisitor, and an Assassin?

Blood angels + DH by the sound of it

Let me guess he fields some thing like ....
HQ Lemartes (Chaplin with jump pack)
HQ Inquisitor Lord + ret.
Elites Assassin (not sure which type)
Troop Assault Squad (5)x2
Troop Grey Knights (5)

roughly 800-1000pts yes?

We were just having a friendly game, so it doesnt matter about the 'legality' of the army but thx for the tips.

The legality of the list DOES matter, if you want to have a chance at beating it.
It's not very sportmanlike if, for example, he's taking 1500 points to your 1000, or if me's mixing & matching armies in ways he shouldn't.

If you post a better list of what he plays, you'll get better offers.
For example... 5-10 assault marines... Does this mean he fields 5 squads of 10 or 5 to 10 of them?

Not necessarily true.
He just has to fight smart.
2 Units of Trukk Boys assaulting 1 unit of 5 or 6 GK's... If you can arrange those odds... I'd put my money on the Boyz.
Just eat up Boyz with the GK's attacks & kill the unit with PK attacks.

You're lucky he isn't taking Land Raiders; Orks have almost no anwer for them. If I were you I'd just run a footslogging horde and try to tie him up in a big assault. The low model count of grey knights will give you the edge in a war of attrition.

Only legal way of making the above army is to have Blood angels as the Parent army and attach Daemon hunters.

Is the OP's opponent playing legally though? He said that the army he was facing was grey knights, and there was no mention of blood angels.

Assault marines cannot be taken in a DH army with Grey Knights. Only way you can get Space marines and Grey knights together is if you've allied the DH onto another codex.

Since Blood Angels can take assault marines as troop it is the only way that you would be able to build an army legally. That said if he's just making stuff up that's different and he's just cheating ... no amount of help from us can stop that.

i would just go with a lot of boyz. 3 reasons
1. You arnt going to out gun unless you put up 3 full squads of lootas, probably not enough points.

2. Trukk thing might work but you need more trukks and more boys.

3. Honestly, my tactics would be flood the field with boys with nob and powerclaw with a boss pole. Your problem is you are trying to out defend them and ork are not about defending its about attacking. if you can field 2 full squads of boyz or more with a kff big mek and a warboss, you should win.

Don't shoot unless your 6 inches away and firing an assault gun, run every turn. Trukks will just explode, coptas will just crash. The only way i use koptas is flanking or assaulting early to stop shooty units from firing at my boyz.

Thinking about it, his army isnt actually legal like you said. I'll sort that out for sunday!

You've, pretty much, got it.
Remember... aspecially with Orks... It's always better to ASSAULT than BE ASSAULTED.
Even if it's a unit you don't think you can beat, try to soften him up with firepower, then charge.
Better to charge someone you might not beat with S4 & an extra attack than let them charge you and only have S3 and 3 attacks (Because you're using choppa/slugga. Right?).

ok guys Uruks list was 30 nobs a warboss, a deffcopta a submersle and his bro had a deamon prince a lord and some chaos guys. I had EC 5 man grey knights, 3 assault squads a marshal and an assassin.

That's something that everyone here is stressing.

that isn't a valid list.

1) Where are his troops? If he's playing SM with GK allies, he has to fill his initial troop slots with SM units.
2) Where is his Inquisitor? You have to have an Inquisitor (Maybe an =I= Lord?) to take an Assassin.

I presume EC means "Emperors Champion," and was the HQ choice?

Also, @ TGU... Your list is HORRIBLY short on troop units. Troops win the game, most times. How many points was this? 1000?

I will make the same suggestions for your Orks that I do everyone else.

1.Get Grazskull Thraka

Put him into a battle Wagon with some meganobs and Mad Doc and make the Meganobs a Troop Choice as per Gazzy's ability.

If you are not playing with that many points or cant afford to spend that much money here is some cheaper alternatives.

1.Get two 30+ troops of Orks as Troop choices. Make one shoota Just in case you want a shooting squad or just take two slugga choppa.

2.If you get Dawn of war..What you want to do is put the Orks with slugga choppa on the center line. What this does is your orks start at the VERY middle of the battlefield. It screws him out of his Deployment and is only able to deploy inches across the board. Now make sure you have at least 60 Ork boys with Slugga choppa and at least one troop is an Ard boys. Run them straight foward and do nothing but run and Assault. this is wonderful if you got the megaNobs as a troop choice because with them in the battle wagon with gazzy and mad doc..its a very powerful force.

3.Try and get loota's or use the loota's to make Flash Gits at somepoint. Them and Captain B. is an alright choice.

4.Put a powerclaw guy and some Big shoota guys in EVERY Ork Boy Troop.

5.Experiment with Ork Bikers..Making one a powerclaw and boss pole guy.

6.WAAAGH!

7.If all that fails...you need more Dakka.

First, get your opponent to build a legal list.
Then, some tactical tips for beating Grey Knights-
-Big mobs can take down the grey knights, so keep the numbers up. You want to be hitting them with about 15 boyz at least, and make sure there's a power klaw in there. If you get a chance, shoot them before you charge. Each kill you get with shooting is 2 less strength six attacks coming your way before your boyz get to strike.
-Always, always, always charge if you can. The extra strength is really important.
-If you're running Nobs, try to give them at least 2 power claws in the unit, and a bosspole. Are these the ones from Assault on Black Reach? Because that's not the best way to run the unit, really. You want different equipment on each Nob, so that you can allocate wounds individually, and a painboy to give the unit feel no pain. If properly tooled up, a nobz unit like that is really hard to kill, and should walk all over any grey knight unit. Put them in the trukk with the warboss and head straight for his lines.
Do you have an option for more Deffkoptas at all? 3 shooting rokkits into his units could hurt him a bit to soften him before the charge.

If buying more stuff is an option, the advice I'd give you is pick something to be good at and focus on it. You could mech up in as many battlewagons as you can manage, or you could get as many footsloggers on the table as possible, or whatever. Orks are a strong army, but you need to specialise.

Looks like a mix of Planetstrike, 40k, and Apocalypse rules.

There's nothing to be done here.

bring on the big gunz, SAG, zzap gunz, boomguns (i know everyone hates zzaps)

lootas, kommandos, stormboyz and flash gits will get you nowhere. theyre overpriced and underpowered against such heavy units (less your lucky with the lootas)

i'd blow him to gak from heavy cover then rush him with full boy squads, he has too few units to take on 90-150 boyz. IMO your wasting points on warbosses, big meks rock and when replacing a nob in a boyz squad cost sweet FA. (not standing for fast attack)

like everyone said though, if it aint legal, even friendly, it aint right. try taking 10 SAG's (proxy them for a friendly), spread them right out across your zone, and see how he goes/feels.

Look simple rules. 40k is a game. Play by the rules. Set a points limit and make sure that you have a legal army.

Genral tips with the possible exception of exarch, always take the sergeant, nob or similar and upgrade his weapons. Rule of thumb if you can take a powerfist take it as you become better you'll work out where you don't need it.

... for orks. Boys die but they're cheap, killing 29boys and a nob is hard; killing 116boys and 4 nobs is tricky even for IG. In fact for all orks don't be scared attack.

... for your friend the DH player ... Tell him to download the blood angels codex he can then ally the daemon hunters on to this to make a legal list (page 21 of DH codex for how to do this)
