so im starting an ork horde and i was wondering how you guys felt about the checkerboard movement loophole?
is it too cheesy or generally accepted? considering im not taking a deff rollla on my batlewagon just to avoid conflict over that whole rules debacle then maybe i should exclude this as well?
for those not familiar this is where you take 2 squads and intermix them so that you can advance using one another to always grant a save even when moving in the open.

Don't like it.
IIRC this issue was mentioned in a WD, saying it was not what this rule was meant for, so was a no-go.
As for me that's kind of bending the rules, unfair and silly fluff-wise, so same answer: DON'T USE IT!!!!!

It says that you only get cover for one unit, even if trying to claim they grant each other cover.
The checkerboard "loophole" does not function in this case.
That said, take a KFF and call it a day.

In a friendly game, using such an arguement inducing and debatable tactic is decidedly unfriendly.
In a tourney game, odds are the INAT FAQ will apply.
In either case, you are safer assuming it will not work/apply.
Regardless it is generally polite (or gentlemanly, depending) to use the least advantageous interpretation of a rule.

What is that INAT you're talking about? (sorry I'm French uh)
And I guess kirsanth's right: a plain, good KFF will do the job!!!

the inat faq is a compilation of ambiguous and odd rules discrepancies and questions that were collected and clarified by a bunch of guys "the supreme inat ruling council" that has somehow managed to be considered semi official and is used in a number of tournaments.

1) Checkerboarding - This one is easy, if your opponent allows it he deserves it. If you are doing this to a helpless non-competitive player than you are just wasting your time.
2) Why wouldn't you take the Deffrolla? What rules problem? Imagine this... a battlewagon is driving down a road running over every person who refuses to get out of it's way. No w it comes across a vehicle. Does it stop and say oh no we couldn't possible monster truck that thing with our gigantic deff rolla? Maybe there is an ambiguity with skimmers but not normal tracked or wheeled vehicles.
People have really gone too far with this RAW thing. It's gotten out of hand. It becomes a tool for people to try to break the game instead of a means of solving problems. Automatically Appended Next Post:
The checkerboard thing is easy.
There are two groups of 30 Orks walking towards an opposing army. When these orks are shot how could any of them possible be any harder to hit than the others? The checkerboard wants you to believe that not only are they orks, they are also simultaneously trees.
I have never met an Ork but I know I will never meet an Ork that is also a Tree unless I am on some really really strong acid.

there are 2 camps that read how the deff rolla works and both are sure that they have it correct. i dont want to get into that whole mess and on top of it i love the jaw on the battlewagon

This is a pretty weak loophole - I can't imagine folks would let it slide.
If you're prepared to spend your game time arguing instead of playing, knock yourself out. I can't imagine what sort of environment this would fly in though.

So its fluff + "It does not say I can't"?
Nice, glad you brought something new to that discussion - ambiguity with skimmers. /sarcasm

As for the Deff Rolla thing. . . Use them. I would again say in the case of debate - use INAT or the weaker interpretation if you do not want to use the FAQ.

If you are going to be moving in the checkerboard formation, your opponent is well within his rights to demand that you completely finish moving one unit before moving the other. A green tide is slow enough without that sort of legalistic nonsense.

This. If you were checkerboarding I would force you to move one squad at a time, Which as far as I know makes checkerboarding almost impossible as you cannot move through your own models. I will check every possible line of sight, I will drop templates on your head, and I will hit you with gobs of flamer templates. I will argue any possible rule with you. I will generally make the game a legal nightmare if you want to play that way. Just take a big mek with KFF, orks already have an easy button for cover.

As said above, movement is the big issue. Just throw a KFF in a Battlewagon then leave at least one dude form all of your squads w/in 6 of it. Legal cheese that incurs no movement penalties
