I was thinking the other day, and thought; what kind of style (if any) would be used in the Graffiti in 40k?
I assume rebellious teens in hiveworlds would be throwing up stuff on the walls. What kind of stuff do you think they put up?

Also, has anybody included anything like this on their terrain?

Well, chaos cults would probably scrawl chaos symbols and rude slogans against the emperor on the walls. Most gangs would probably think of something rude to say either directed to the Arbiters, administratum, or other gangs.

I'm not actually sure though, if there's enough spraypaint, for graffiti, in the 41st millennium. (Seriously, nowhere in the fluff (that I read anyways, which isn't all that much) do they talk about spraypaint...)

In fluff there is definitely grafittti. Some of them is abuse against the imperium on unruly worlds. Others asking for details of loved ones. And the most obvious one being chaotic cult info.

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

I think orks would grafffiti on things saying that they're the best and that the 'oomies are pathetic. After all Ghaz was discovered after the Dark Angels found Ork graffiti on a Wrlord Titan Wreckage on Piscina IV.

y'know:

Im da hand of Gork and Mork.... etc. etc.

Yep, that one.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Chaos cults: chaos symbols
Orks: dakka symbols and other symbols
Imperials: imperial phrases
This is my opinion.

Graffiti in the 41st Millenium is the planets that they have destroyed. The imperiums firestorms are the next generations way of saying this is our territory or, "Kilroy was here".

But in truth, secret Chaos cults and combinations would be the ones to put up graffiti. The subject obviously being Chaos god worship and insults to the "false emperor."

"DOWN WITH THE EMPEROR!"

You know how teens think...

I actually played on a cityfight table that had graffiti all over the place. I think only one piece of terrain didnt have it on. I think it was a nice touch that the graffiti ended suddenly and bits were missing where chunks of the wall had come off.

grafiti probably carries the death penalty on imperial worlds but there would still probably
be naive teens and cutists

Back in 2001 GW cardiff had some nice terrain with graffiti on it. May favourite was the cold war classic:

"Nuke 'em till they glow then shoot them in the dark!"

On a slightly different tack, there are some good images in the dakka galleries of imperial propaganda posters, which you can print out small size and stick them on terrain. - gotta try that.

i still think that shadowbrands idea of a penis would be the most hilarious and widespread of graffitti types or if they were evil it could be a chaos penis with tentecles or something...

Well, it would probably be heretics doing most of the graffiti which means it would probably be stuff bagging the Emperor.

It's only from "Starship troopers" (novel) so not like it's a famous one or suchlike.

Anti-establishment graffiti would more than likely be classed as a seditious activity (ie treason) and be treated as such.

Although I could see various imperial governors being derided in this fashion (and then the usual suspects being rounded up and shot).

This is what the graffiti would be like.

You got to remember the people writing graf in 40k are even more ignorant then the people who do it today.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I am sure there are references to glow in the dark and neon paint being sprawled on walls in variously crude and highly artistic designs and decals saying pretty much anything that grafiti says at the moment.

I think people tend to forget that the Imperium is not all the same, and even on worlds where the harshest punishments are used on a regular basis, people will be people and spray things in places where the authorities can't see, or even where they can, if they want to be bold

In hive worlds etc there are billions of people and thousands of years worth of crud built on top of each previous generations buildings... the underhive would be a mess of grafiti and the police would rarely venture down there.

I would even imagine that there are parts of hives where generations of people have just been lost, cut off from the rest of the hive by quakes, fire, flood, etc.

The Imperium is far from vanilla, and the same will go for what they write on walls and how they go about it. Just use your imagination
