Is Converting Limited release minis ok?
NO. leave it how you got it.
Some cool basing is ok, but don’t touch the model
SOME minor work on the model is ok... like a hand or weapon swap
So long as you can recognize it’s still that cool limited mini then go ahead
Anything goes

So I was doing some work on some limited edition models I have. And I got to thinking about this.

Personally, I think that some minor work is ok. And maybe even so heavy work so long as it is identifiable

For example, I have that limited edition space marine sarge you got for ordering 100$ worth of crack back when 5th was new... and i decided to make him space wolfy. So I gave him the wolf head backpack, and cut up one of the wolf hides to go with it. Then instead of putting the bolter arm on, I pined a bolt pistol arm that had a space wolf shoulder pad.
I am trying to find a wolf head small enough that I can put it on his powerfist.

But despite the conversion work, people will still know that’s it’s a limited release.

O, I also did a hand swap on the 2003 games day wolf priest... he needed a new pistol.
As for basing, both the priest and the sarge are mounted on a piece of cork like the rest of the army.

So what are your thoughts on this??

I'd say some minor work is acceptable. That minor work you are doing seems fine to me.

to be honest, imo it syour model so you can do pretty much what you like with it. I am sure other people have much harsher views on the matter.

this is a conversion i did a while back based on last years spez marine captain. I hated the blow up doll head and wasn't a big fan of the hammer either, so i made him a chaplain.

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

Anything goes, as above, it's yours do what you want.

Of course I have a recently aquired Adeptus Mechanicus set on my conversion table ATM, so I may be biased...

The only reason not to convert a limited edition figure is if you are holding onto it to reap a profit by selling it as an OOP collectable.

Apart from that, knock yourself out!

Personally, I would never convert my '91 Games Day Captain, nor my Thrud the Barbarian figures, but it is individual choice, really.

I made a small conversion to my SM Games Day Captain, by adding a DA backpack and an Iron Halo, but it's your model, so it's your choice on wherever to convert it or not.

i would say you can do WHATEVER you want to your own limited minis but remember that you could be hurting your resale value. i personally would and have converted limited minis but never in a way that permanently damages them. i won't cut off metal bits but i will glue on new ones and i keep the unused ones. basically, if forced, i could strip the mini and return him to almost original condition.

You can do what you like with it, why would you feel the need to leave it recognisable as a LTD edition unless you wanted to to make the point of showing off that you had a LTD edition model in the first place.

Once you convert a model it has little collectable value afterwards, but if you have no intention of reselling they does it matter? The only question you have to ask is whether you would regret not being able to have the figure as it was intended. You may had difficulty picking up another limited edition copy meaning that you're unlikely to have another go at having the original figure. The solution? Buy two copies of a LTD edition figure allowing you to have your cake and eat it? Most LTD figures are so rare that you are effectively denying the collectors community the opportunity to own one by cutting yours up.

If a figure was extremely limited then I would certainly avoid converting it. Some of the unreleased miniatures are in so few number you could hold every copy in the world in one hand. It almost seems a crime to destroy them, surely a conversion wouldn't be that desperately desired. If the original configuration of a figure meant so little to me that I was prepared to hack it about to convert but it meant so much to other people then I would prefer to sell it on to someone who would treasure it.

I think it depends on wether you are a modeller or a collector....... I know alot of us (myself included) may consider ourselves both, but in truth (and I hope others agree?) its never a 50-50 % split one always outweighs the other.

Therefore if your swaying toward the collecting side of the hobby I would imagine any conversion to a limited edt mini would be like kicking your chosen god in the danglie bits.

Although if your more a modeller what better than using a limited edt mini as base to a conversion, afterall it makes it even more unique, which is why it was converted in the first place right?.

I've got a few OOP minis I've started converting - doesn't matter to me that they'll be difficult to get hold of again, 'cause I'm making them look cooler! So yeah, so long as you're doing something good with them, convert away.

well you buy limited eds because they are special, so why bother converting, i mean just use a plain space marine if you feel like converting and sculpt the details.....
IMO it's bloody stupid to spend money on something limited to make it unique.......

Id have to agree with KK on that one. But shoot man this hobby is about making your stuff your own, and I think if you convert a limited release, then that mini will be even more your own. Everyone has sgts, but not everyone has a sgt made from pure badassness and a limited mini. Anything goes IMO

Still just a little chunk of molded metal.

Do with it as you please, if someone complains you did something to "ruin" a rare model, tell the bugger to buy it himself!

What? You mean you actually took your Limeted Edition figure out of it's original packaging and *shudders* painted it! You played with it! exposing it to unsupervised game store kids!

Seriously, why -would- there be a problem?

<Rarity> I am not whining, I am complaining! Do you want to hear whining?

Thiiis is whiiiiining! Oooo, this mini is too expeennsive! I'm' going brrookee! Can't you make it cheaper? Oh, it's resin and not metal anymore! Why didn't you take it off the sprue first? That's gonna leave a pour spout, and the FLGS is so far away, WHY DO I HAVE TO SUPPORT IIIIIIIT?! </Rairty>
