I'm personally surprised to see that hardly anyone appears to use Land Speeders, I've just got the SW codex and they look like quite a good choice (and model) for an army, so how come I rarely ever see a list with land speeders in? Where'd all the Land Speeders go?

I see them in Vulkan lists...
I prefer attack bikes though, being able to charge into combat has had some amazing results with attack bikes.
I don't run vehicle heavy, so I don't use speeders. They are pricier and larger than bikers as well, which kills it for me.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Typhoons are great in this edition. I rarely field my company without the two I have. I just need to buy another Ravenwing boxed set and get my third to fill out the squadron.

Ultramarines Second Company - ~4000 points
Dark Eldar WIP - ~800 points

I love the Typhoon...and is prob. the only speeder I'd ever use.
But, they are just so expensive, almost painful IMO.

Typhoon Land Speeders are excellent units. Their offensive abilities speak for themselves, but on top of that, they can use their long range to avoid a lot of fire that would otherwise be very dangerous to Land Speeders. This is the reason why I would almost never take any other Land Speeder then the Land Speeder Typhoon (except in a Vulkan He'Stan list, in which case a Multi-melta / Heavy Flamer Speeder would be nice).
For Space Wolves however, the Typhoon Land Speeder has gotten some competition from the Long Fang squad. These guys can deal more damage then the Typhoon (point for point), but don't have the mobility of the Typhoon. A lot of Space Wolves players who use Drop Pods use the Long Fangs as their long range support, simply because they can take a Drop Pod (which they won't use), so that all their filled Drop Pods will land the first turn.
If you are playing a mechanised Space Wolves army, then I would certainly suggest using the Land Speeder Typhoon, since it is simply a great long range support unit.

I agree with the above.
I play Mech heavy, but even I prefer Attack Bikes. They get cover easier, are cheaper, can assault units to tie them up, and are more resistant to small arms fire.
Land Speaders are good, and their primar advantage is the ability to deep strike, but they are just too fragile in my opinion to take in massed quantities.
I have the habit of fielding both in a list. But that is just me.

Personally I think the land speeders are great.
And even though the bikes can be great, depending on the terrain the land speeders have far superior mobility.
I tend to run typhoons sometimes and other times mm/ hf ones (even if i rarely use vulkan).
Last game the hf/ mm speeders really shone. Was a ruined city game board where the opponent (plague marine chaos) deployed his forces on two sides.
He was all meched up but the speeders were able to zip in/out and immobilize/destroy one sides transports so my army could focus on the other side without having to be afraid of the other sides guys.
Basically 2 of his plague marine squads never made it to the battle, and i won by killpoints.
Other examples are when my friend brings outflanking stealers, with 4+ save and 4+ cover save most of the time. You can easily just go and burn 1 squad a turn with the heavy flamers.
So yeah, use the speeders!

Personally, I just don't think that land speeders are very wolfy. Remember fighting on their feet as Russ intended. Plus the crew can't jump out into close combat.

Playing Space Marine demo while GF was scrapbooking:
Me: I can turn it down, if the screams of dying orks are annoying you.
Her: That's ok, I love hearing the screams of dying orks.
My armies (W-D-L):
2,000 (about 1,200 painted and now I'm feeling the call of Russ) 3-4-3
2,000 (about 1,000 painted, WiP) 0-1 |

One key thing that speeders do is they can interdict movement. Troops that assault them don't get to consolidate off them and leapfrog ahead like they would with non-vehicle units like attack bikes. Even the burning wreck of a speeder will block movement effectively if it crashes in a bottleneck.
But I have to admit I'm attracted by the bikes' ability to assault, better cover saves and 10 point cheaper cost. Probably using both is a good idea.
