Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I signed up for the Adepticon Gladiator and Championship last week and I received this e-mail:

You recently signed up for both the 40K Gladiator and 40K Championships at AdeptiCon 2010. Since you registered we have added some information regarding the European Team Championships. Participation in both the above mentioned events is required to qualify for ETC consideration. If you are interested in being considered a potential candidate for the ETC, simply respond to this email stating your participation and we will add you to the list.

Additional information regarding the ETC can be found here:
http://www.adepticon.org/10rules/etc.pdf

So I was just wondering how many people would be interesting to going to Germany to represent the USA?

Most people have trouble going to their local stores to play in tournaments, and only a few more are willing to fly to large events.

So who would be interested in flying for around 15 hours plus the 3 layovers for $1500, not including food and lodging, for the pride of representing the US of A in a few games of 40k?

If 40k were a better competitive game I'd say it might be worth it. When you have games like Magic or, hell, even competitive Scrabble, there's absolutely no reason to.

I'd totally go (Actually happens on my honeymoon!) and have the money to pay for it. However, I see that 6 spots are already full and that they are giving out two spots based upon participation at ONE event. That being said, I'd like to know who the 6 are that have already been selected. If this is the first Blackmoor is hearing about this I'm wondering if we really have the best 8 players in the nation going.

Also, the events scored seems kind of bad, as last year the gladiator was more of a "Who can bring a titan with flyers" then a real tournament IMO.

I would have rather seen 7 of the 8 spots be open and be offered to people who have high scores at a number of tournaments. Not just people who show up and play at one event.

If everyone is so eager to drop $2000 to play some games of 40k in Europe I wonder why none of them have gone over and played in one of the UK heats?

Hmmm because I'd be paying $2000 to play in a heat and have to pay another $2000 to go to the finals! Plus the armies are at 1500 points. IMO the lower the points level the more luck and list building play in the outcome. 1750-2000 is the sweet spot for me.

Hello Everyone,

I see word has already started to spread even before the official announcement on the Adepticon site. I am the captain of the American Team, and the one organizing this venture. Let me answer a few frequently asked questions:

The first six players were selected based on the experience and opinion of myself, and, as invitations were accepted, the other members of the team. They are:

Greg Sparks
Shaun Kemp
John Willingham
Wyatt Traina
Mike Mutscheller
Ben Mohlie (myself)

The decision to award the last two spots competitively was an easy one, we need the absolute best players to represent our great nation and prove that the best 40k in the world is played in the United States of America.

It is my hope that all the well known veteran players from across the country will come to adepticon for the right to join the american team. I also hope that unknown players far and wide will see this competition as an opportunity to win a name for themselves. So come, show us what you've got at Adepticon 2010, Team America will be watching.

Please direct other questions to teamamerica40k@gmail.com I'll be happy to answer as many as I can.

That's one hell of a team you've put together. If it were my call I would have definitely included Marc Parker and Bill Kim. I am sure your team will do very well.

Not not just about building a "Dream Team" but finding people that can go.

Bill has law school and that takes both time and money. Marc just had a baby, so he may not be able to make the trip.

That reminds me, I need to play Bill one of these days. He is one of the only top players that I have never played before.

Allan they should give you the nod due to your ability to create unique lists. Europe at 1500 points is the epitomy of the metagame. I think you could definitely funk them out.

The ETC is 1750 points, so should I sign you up Asugradinwa?

I don't know what to play at Adepticon. I am thinking about Demonhunters.

I dont know if I have enough cash to make it to Adepticon this year much less a trip to Europe. Grad school has that effect on your wallet.

Though I wouldnt mind putting down 20 bucks to help costs. I think Dakka can help out.

Well, they'd need rep's from South America, Africa, Australia, and Asia in order to do the 40k Global Team Championships and 40k Americans Kickin' European Arse Team Championships just sounds funny.

I'd like to know who fethed with my post. Did I say something a mod didn't like or what?

If 40k were a better competitive game I'd say it might be worth it.

Personally I kinda agree with him, it's hard for me to take competitive 40k all that seriously.

...you mean 40k events or just events in general?

I've never actually participated in a 40k tournament. In fact the only tournaments of any kind I remember taking part in was a recent M:TG qualifier, and a Mario Tennis tournament years and years ago when Pokemon cards were still popular.

Yeah, so I guess I'm more of a "casual" gamer than anything, but I don't think I'm wrong in saying competitive 40k could use some work. Some actual honest to god support from GW would be a good start.
