If the US has the will and resources to field two 8-man teams, would that fly with the TOs?

We should field a "Red" and a "Blue" Team, as everyone thinks the country is divided into fundamentalist conservatives and liberal socialists.
Of course we'd have to find players willing to play by the special character restrictions.

I'm shocked that you folks think so little of the administration of this team. I know that Bill Kim got an invite but couldn't swing it. I don't know who this Marc character is, but he might have gotten an invite too.
The Codex Toledo guys pounded faces at Da Boyz GT a couple months ago. If it wasn't for some canadian, they woulda gone 1-2-3 for most battle points.
Kemp is obviously pro, curb stomping his way through various events like Adepticon 2008. Others too I'm sure, but he hasn't let me sit on his lap yet and listen to his tale.
Our captain is the guy who came in 3rd at gladiator last year. Not too impressive until you realize that he was the only one of the top who didnt take a reaver (or any superheavies).
Those guys should be on the team. Which leaves that Traina character. Really, I'm on the team because I have a big mouth and know the captain.
We can all sit around and spitball and comeup with 8 people who toast europeans all day, but probably only 5-6 of those eight would accept the invite. Huh, wow, theres 6 guys on the team. Funny how that works. Its almost like someone already tried to do that...

I think you have a fine team.
I think "the Wrecking Crew" is derailing your thread so they can wave their flag a bit.
Ultimately, it comes down to the best 8 guys who work together and drop the cash to go to Europe for the event.

It would be a good time, but 1.5k to fly out there isn't possible for many. Simple solution though, host it in the US

That is part of the problem, the fact that you don’t know who Marc Parker is.
No one is questioning the choice of the Toledo guys or Kemp. In fact, when I was trying to get a team to go over to the ETC a couple of years ago I reached out to the Toledo guys first, but they wanted to try to go to the UK GT heats instead.
Our captain is the guy who came in 3rd at gladiator last year. Not too impressive until you realize that he was the only one of the top who didnt take a reaver (or any superheavies).
I have no idea who the captain of the team was, so I had to look him up (which says a lot since I travel around to all of the major events, and know all of the top players). He finished in the middle of the pack in Da Boyz GT and considering the size of the event that is not that good. 3rd at the Gladiator last year is nice, but the Gladiator is the worst tournament to judge ability by because the rules are so different than regular 40k, and it is more about bringing the biggest piece of resin. I think he did well at the Invitational, so that is a little bit better for his resume’.
Those guys should be on the team. Which leaves that Traina character. Really, I'm on the team because I have a big mouth and know the captain.

Greg called me and wanted to know if I wanted to be on the team, and extended an invite to me. I told him that I would be glad to join up. Then I got the e-mail for the cattle call at Adepticon, and Greg said that the Captain decided to go in a different direction.

I think its funny that people are making a big deal about who is on the team period. Must admit though I find it surprising that they just did not invite other people who they thought might make the trip and are good players instead of this competition. I agree with Blackmoor about the Gladiator. I know Greg helps to run it, but its still mainly about the biggest toys. If the guy that placed without a Reaver actually played against a Reaver and placed that high than i would be impressed. I was tied for 1st going into the final game and had to face a Reaver without a Reaver. Needless to say I got hammered.
I am signed up for both the Gladiator and Combat Patrol. Think I just may end up playing Combat Patrol.
Should be a amusing how this works out.

fortunately if you guys didnt notice already the reaver wont be making an appearance this year.
"no models with more than 4 structure points allowed"
way more fair, I'll either be taking a superheavy ig tank or a biotitan this year. Gotta wait till new nids come out before I make that kind of decision.
I dont think anyone can criticize who's currently on the team for recruiting the way they have thusfar, its still just a game anyways, right?

there should be a branch of the US government that supports things like this... international competitions that the USA can participate in can only help us.

He played and beat Goatboy's Reaver list. The same list that came in 1st and 2nd.

Good thing I'm not the captain then.

He played a joke list of all infantry IG. Go to that event like that with an all infantry IG list and tell me how you do. Tell you what. I'll throw my hat in the ring and play you at adepticon.
John Hwang: Thanks for the kind words. To answer your question: I don't think the TOs allow two teams from the same country, but I could be wrong. They do allow "mercenaries" who can play on other countries teams. You are allowed to have half of your team made up of people who aren't from the parent country. However we could field a WHFB team as well, since the events happen simultaneously. It would be pretty great to win 40k and WHFB.

The gladiator is not a good benchmark to compare with typical/normal 40k tournaments. I beat one of the Reaver armies in the last round. The mission rules seriously hurt Reaver armies that round.

My guess would be that you only have one team representing one country. In the World Cup Soccer you have 1 team for each country no matter how good your second team would be, or how large your country is.
You might want to go over to the ETC forums as see how that would work, and what would happen if you have several people wanting to be captians or have several teams wanting to represent the US how they would select which team would go.
You can post the question here:
http://warhammer.org.uk/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=19&sid=c4f4710c2edb050f78e7a4d4d73dbfec
It might be who ever can get 8 people to commit to go. If that is the case you are in good shape since the other team would have to wait to April to get the final 2 people.

Question: How many times did the USA win in tournament sponsored by GW like the 2009 championships?
Answer 1: Call your neigbour's parrot. Make him chop off all your fingers. Hi can nibble the stubs if he wants. When the parrot is dead of indigestion, start counting.
Answer 2: Make an reasonable guess, guys!

For WFB, I don't believe the US even entered a team in the 2009 ETC, so I guess the US won ZERO.
