I was taking some pictures for my Warboss on trike conversion, and I thought I'd take a few of this puppy.
It needs a few touch ups here & there, but it's just about complete.

Thought I'd share.

I used multiple colors because I still wanted it to look "looted" a bit. The red was specifically chosen because I always take RPJ, and I didn't want to hear any moaning & whining from anyone if I called it a "Yellow paint Job" with the same benefits... So, now it has red on it.
Da red ones is da speedy bits!

I used the troop version of the Big Shoota boy. I just loved the image of an ork hanging out of the top of a speeding Battlewagon, shooting from the hip.

Thoughts are welcome.

That looks great! Only thing I can think of being diferent is maybe putting a little black to set off the yellow, like maybe a bad moon glyph or the like, or maybe the orky face on the grill. Thing is it looks great to me as it is, so I'm not sure I'd really advise that at all.

I do like the guy with the big shoota

Suggestions: the yellow looks great, as chugosh said some black flames or glyphs painted on would offset it nicely. Also, maybe the yellow could be less solid. Currently, the whole body is yellow as if it's a tonka truck (sorry for the criticism, I'm building up to something constructive) maybe you should paint some metal chips/bullet holets onto it, that would make it clear that there's a crude layer of yellow paint slapped onto metal.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Or, painting the rivets metal would be a great way to get that effect

It looks good...but a bit too clean for orks if you get my drift. As mentioned above you could add some ramshackle bits to orkify it a bit.

But if that's not the look you are aiming for that's cool. Like I said, it looks good.

Thanks for the feedback.

I was going for a "cleaner" look for this one. I mean.... I wanted it to look a little dirty (thus, the heavy washes of gryphonne sepia), but I don't want it all beat up and chipped. My thoughts are that... Well, they're Bad Moons. they got more teef than anyone! lol They can afford to keep their vehicles well painted. : )

As for glyphs and whatnot... that will come. I intend to use decals and paint over them... for now, though, I just want to be able to get the thing on the table. : )

Oh... and @ I-b-h-t-e
I don't have the patience to paint that many rivets. : ) The ones I DID paint almost drove me batty!

Thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming.

Eric

P.S. As I complete them, I'll update the thread with my Bad Moon Nob Bikers.

Looks like the front tires were looted.

That looks really good. I think the little parts here and there being red is a good idea, at least to keep the complainers away like you said. Man that is soo annoying... anywho Great job

Nice, clean work MM. I'd echo the comment about adding flames, but then again I'm totally biased towards orks with flame paintjobs!

The yellow really works on the hubs of the front wheels, gives it a very "Caterpillar" feel. I might have to do that myself. Looking forward to more updates from you.

I was wondering if anyone would notice...

The front tires aren't exactly... stock.

I mean, they're the wheels that came with the Battlewagon, but I converted the front end to use 1 tire per side, instead of 2.
I can get images of the underside later, if anyone is interested.

I think Orks are the perfect army for me, as I am a looter at heart. I'm always leaving bits off of models so that I can have them available later.

For example, I don't think I've EVER assembled a Rhino and put the panel in there that's supposed to separate the crew from the passengers.

I've done that with these, too.

For example, I don't use a Grabbin Klaw, so I saved it (See my Warboss conversion).
Also, I never put the 'Ard Case on a BWagon, so I only used the minimum bits necessary on the back. You never know when you'll need to armor something. Right? LOL
Same goes for the gunners in the back... I put them up top, so am reserving them for... something bigger...

^ Truth.

I do the exact same thing, with just about every kit. I look at the trukk engine and immediately think "If I plate up the cab, I can use this engine on a bike..." or crack open the battlewagon kit and think "The crew would make great tankbustas and kommandos..."

Proof positive that you're a greenskin at heart!

I'd pick out all the rivets with a metallic silver paint pen and then do some rusting around them with a wash. Also add some grime and weathering to break it up and make it look less "toyish" Maybe some glyphs to.

I agree on this. At the very least use a wash on the rivets to pick them out. It takes ALONG time doing it to the Ork BW (trust me on this one lol) But the end result is TOTALLY worth the time.
And I was just messing with ya, its refreshing to see things not done the same way every time. I do the same thing. I think most Ork players, are Orks at heart, I know for damn sure I am

First off, thank you to everyone who checked it out and, even more, to those who chimed in suggestions and voted on some of the images.

I wanted to give you an idea of what look I was going for, since some of the comments seem to have a different idea.

For this piece, the idea isn't that it was just assembled from pieces they had laying around. I mean, it WAS... but it's more than that.

The idea here is that they built it THEN painted it. Thus, the whole thing, even rivets, was yellow.
As bit fell/were blown off, they were replaced with scraps found elsewhere.
These added pieces, having not been painted yellow yet, still have the metal rivets showing.

This way, it looks (to me, anyway) that there were hasty repairs done to it, but they haven't been able to paint it up before riding it off to battle again. After all, when the Waaagh calls, the Waaagh calls. : )

Proof positive that you're a greenskin at heart!

LOL
Thanks!

...and I don't think I'll be doing flames on it any time soon, but I do want to paint a big black Bad Moon icon on it somewhere... and I have some interesting ideas for some GW transfers I have.

Thanks for looking!

Eric

Black flames. That is what you need. Give it a go, it is easier than you may think. Also, a few checker patterns would be nice.

Still, pretty decent job overall. Could use more depths of color and a bit more weathering. Oils and powders would be useful, but that may be too advanced.

As for the flames; it's not that I don't think I can do them... it's that I don't want them on there. I know I can do them. It's just black with a little highlighting.

And, re: Oils & powders...
Not too advanced. Just more than I want to deal with.

This is painted to a gaming standard for me. I'm not trying to have it win any awards. I just want it to look decent on the table.

Thanks for the comments and for looking, guys!

Really, this makes the most sense. If there's one thing I can't picture Orks doing, it's taking the time to paint each piece before bolting it on!

It's how I'm doing mine. Some rivets have the paint chipped off, but overall I evaluate each bit and say to myself "would this have been bolted on before or after it was painted?"

Well, my standards for my own armies on the table are as high as showcase pieces. I don't spend a fortune on stuff to have it look less than perfect, but that is just my perfectionist issue.

As for the Flames, they look great if done right. Otherwise, the model is a bit bland being all yellow. Even a few checkerboards to break it up a bit.

Ah, yes. That perfectionist gene.
I remember it well, though not fondly. : )

I am a relatively slow painter, myself. I tend not to "slop" the paint on. Considering that the last group of 20 CSM I did took me almost 10 months to paint... I decided I needed to lighten up a bit. I play almost EVERY Saturday from noonish until midnightish. One Saturday a month, I leave off 40K & DM my AD&D 2e campaign. That's my only large amount of spare time in the week. I'm lucky to get an hour a night, tops.

I had to make the sacrifice, and I feel better, now that I did.

Kudos to you for holding onto it.

Eric

Well, it is hard to give up on it. I am not that great, but I am steadily improving. The more I strive for perfection, the better I will get. I have plenty of time during the week to paint, as I work third shift. I also do commissions, so I need to make things look just right.

I do wish I could get in as much gaming time as you, though. That is just an awesome amount of time to play.

Keep that outlook, re: painting. That's the best way to think about it.

As for my gaming time... I am a fortunate man. My wife is a very understanding Gaming Widow.
She's fallen for the old... I mean... she understands that it could be worse. At least she knows where I am and has a general idea (within 2 - 4 hours LOL) of when I'll be home.
