Lost in the warp. Halp!

I've known about 40k for years. A few of my friends in WoW play and talk about the game all the time, and when I visited one of them early this year he convinced me to start getting into the game by buying a Black Reach box and the Space Marine codex. I've quietly been cursing him ever since ...

I didn't get much (who am I kidding, any) chance to play for the next six months, but with a recent move I have an LGS within ten minutes' drive. I've got a very limited budget but so far I've managed to get about 1100 or so points worth of models and probably picking up another 1500 while I'm in Houston for a few days.

I'm a huge lore nerd, and I've been devouring a lot of the Black Library books. I'll read just about anything once, as the 500-ish novels on my bookshelf attest to. At least I haven't started collecting old Codexes (YET...)

As for armies, I'm thinking these:

Space Marines -- Due to being a lorenerd and a roleplayer, I'm making my own Chapter with its own history, colors, etc etc. I've been coming up with ideas while painting. (:
Chaos Marines -- A corrupted group of my SM chapter, using a similar color scheme and some model conversions for fun. More lore nerding with this. I haven't decided whether they'll follow Khorne or Slaanesh. Maybe a bit of both?
Tyranid -- The entire reason I want to play Tyranid is so I have an excuse to paint them.

As yet I haven't had a chance to play a game, but I've watched several and it's only made me want to play more. The local group has been really awesome about including me (I've been a book monkey lately looking up rules) and answering questions, they're not very particular about having painted armies (even though I will, because I love painting), and I think only one of them looks at me funny because I'm a girl.

I also like to talk. A lot. Can you tell?

Angels of Nezeria (Dark Angels successor chapter)
Tau Marines: Defectors to the Tau Empire (let the nerdrage begin!)
Fledgling Cadian Imp Guard: because I want to paint tanks
Member of the Cadian 642nd -- even in death we serve the Emperor!
DR:70--S+GM+++B+I+Pw40k09#+D+++A++/wWD-R++T(F)DM+ (except i really suck and my last game was during 6th ed)
KamikazeCanuck: It's more like a big, giant red button in a glass case with a little hammer that says "Break in case of Galaxy on fire"

Welcome, wow that's quite the intro you go there!

It's really cool you're into the lore and stuff - you'll find many people here are - but I urge you to play. It's slow to start but I'll think you'll like it. And it'll be even better when your impressively painted army crushes the opponent

Yay! another girl on dakka, we also need more of those...

Making no mistakes is what establishes the certainty of victory, for it means conquering an enemy that is already defeated.

It cannot be denied...and welcome to dakka. Any particular book preferences?

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."
