So does harker do good in any of your armies or would you even consider taking him? He looks as if he could do some good with BS 4 and a Heavy bolter, but alot of things can look good but performing good is a whole different story. So whats your take is he worth bringing to a game or would he just be a waste?

They will be of tissue paper and whimpy muscle. In tissue paper armor I clad them and with the mightiest flashlights they will be armed. They will be touched by every sort of plauge or disease to help further make them unhappy, all sickness will blight them. They will have almost no tactics, strategies, but lots of machines so that they can atleast stand up to a foe in battle. They are my tar pit against the Terror. They are the bulk of Humanity. They are my Imperial Guard and they will know much fear!"

He's a waste of points for what he does.

Thats kind of disapointing because I find the model really cool looking, so what is it just the point cost that makes him useless? How is he compared to a heavy bolter squad? (I know a bad comparison as both are not used very often, but still)

Infiltrate the squad with an autocannon and 3 plasma guns. Infiltrate them into cover and act as a firebase with MEQ cover-saves. So really he provides camo-cloaks (normally 30pts) aswell as a heavy bolter (10pts) and for the additional 15pts you get a tougher sergeant and the ability to infiltrate/outflank!

180pts well spent.

I would advise against using these guys with melta as, even though you could outflank in a chimera with Harker.. that job is done allot better (for not many more points) by a Valkyrie/Vendetta as it has better armements, can move faster and is better armoured. Str5-7/plasma firebase is where its at!

There is only so much one heavy bolter can do.

So he can be useful as a fire base, but would I have to get him a Valkyrie/Vendetta to maxamize this effect or can I just use him as he is with a squad?.

The whole point, with the ability to infiltrate, is that you dont need to use him with a transport. Infiltrating and sitting a veteran squad in cover with relatively long-ranged weapons is the way to go.

Well...Logan and Long fangs beg to differ.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I'm using Harker like this: infiltrate him with another HB and 3 SR's. I've got 9 shots at 36", wounding infantry well and causing pin checks, with the ability to take out light vehicles too. Good firepower, and having a squad that can infiltrate is nice too. Need for cover is obvious.

The other way I thought of using him was mounted on a chimera with AC/PG combo. With a ML/HB on the chimera, that's 17! shots of heavy dakka at 24" (19 at 6"), outflanking if desired. Some mobile firepower (Harker and the ML, plus the PG's if things are hairy tight), but it can get to a good static position quickly. Sometimes it's be best to get out to avoid angling the boat so as not to draw LoS through the turret from the hatch, exposing the side of it.

3+ cover save makes all that firepower extremely wasted. His own squad with move-through cover allows you to retreat and hopefully avoid a charge (from the same squad?) while peppering it with some fire (h.bolter & lasgun flashlights)

My 3rd Edition Dark Angels and our Standard of fortitude beg to differ, and yes I still play that old codex, because I refuse to acknowledge a 4th edition codex. (I know I cant run with that at a tournament but in friendly games most people are OK with it. My space wolf adversary prefers a 'competitive' dark angel list) As for Harker I play with the Cadian models so I use Ox from Shaeffers last chancers to represent him, and I put him in a squad with another heavy bolter and three sniper rifles and shoot infantry all day

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake.

I'm not sure how cover wastes firepower, but I agree that the relentless heavy bolter does make one want to field a footslogging Harker squad with 3 specials and no heavies. I'd still go PG as the range/type mesh with the flashlights, and it's an expensive squad to be suicide meltas.

I just feel that for 10 points, there's really no reason to NOT include an autocannon team. It really adds flexibility to the unit, especially if you're camped in a good spot and don't want to move.

Who is straken and harker based on again? I thought harker was Jesse Ventura's I dont got time to bleed from Predator. I dunno who Straken is suppose to be.

Maybe the SGT from starship troopers?

I rather thought Harker was based on Sgt Harper, who is Richard Sharpe's henchman in the Sharpe novels by Bernard Cornwell.
