So, I was watching videos of the Australian version of Left 4 Dead 2.

Valve, I am disappoint. They've censored it too much and they've done a very shoddy job of it.

-Bodies DISAPPEAR when they hit the ground.
-Blood doesn't splatter on anything.
-No decapitations
-No dismemberment
-No visible wounds
-No piles of corpses
-Grenades make enemies DISAPPEAR, RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. They don't get splattered, they VANISH. INTO THIN AIR.

No, I'm no sadist or anything, but the violence reduction is ridiculous. The first game had decapitation, dismemberment, blood splatters, gory explosions and dead bodies aplenty, so why is it a problem now? Why do the bodies disappear? Even the older, relatively bloodless FPS games like Medal of Honour: Frontline had persistent bodies.

The most insulting thing about the game is that despite it being one of the least violent FPS games I've EVER played, it still got slapped with an MA15+ rating (the highest in Australia). Seriously, feth Valve for their lousy editing and feth the OFLC for being so inconsistent with their game ratings.

I suspect the german version having the same "children-friendly" attitude - that's why i never played L4D 1 and will never play L4D 2

Blame your constituencies, not Valve. Valve doesn't make the rules, they just have to follow them.

I'm just so confused as to why the first game was let through with an MA15+ rating and no fuss while this one was held back and anally raped until it's worse than anything Germany's rating board would let through.

Ahtman: Valve could have at least put work into it so it didn't look and run so badly. They were probably just told 'make it less gory', and they went overboard with it, because there aren't any games that I can think of at the moment with this kind of bs censorship.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I was playing it today, in Australia, on Steam at the FLGS... there are piles of bodies, blood splatters, gore skins on zombies, grenades send bodies and limbs flying through the air...

I was wondering what the uncensored version must look like, so now I'm a little confused.

IGN gave the Oz version a 5.0, because appearantly Valve did a rush job with censoring the game for the market.

I'm not sure what exactly they cut, wouldn't surprise me if it's the same version.

Dude, you DO NOT want to talk about that topic! I do realize that the situation in Oz is no fun, but we get a lot of crap here too.
And as far as I can tell, the Australian rating board has the same problem as the German one. They are quite ... random.

Move to the Netherlands already, no problems here with games. They're rated according to content and that's it. Nothing is cut or done to alter the experience.

Sure they did not just show the game running with the gore turned off? There is an option in the menu to disable it.

I wonder if the version you can download from Steam is uncensored. The demo on my 360 is, and so are the demos at the internet cafe that I go to. Makes sense I guess.

The censored version must be the one available to retail stores here. Still, I can't download it from Xbox LIVE, so I'd have to play it at the internet cafe.

If that were true, I doubt L4D(a game whose enemies are composed entirely of corpses) would even have been allowed to be released at all.

I guess it is better to modify your game and get a little bit of sales then refuse and never see a dime from the aussies.

Not when nobody will buy the game anyway.

Well, serious gamers will be bright enough to realise by now that it is easily patchable. Some are actually complaining that Aussies get an unfair performance advantages online due to the fact that there aren't bodies everywhere.

It was a little surprising, netcafe steam accounts (which have fees, but access to pretty much every game) usually don't get new release games for over a month after release... not only did we get it, we got the 'correct' version.

There are no laws in Australia against dead bodies in any media, but they are probably considered inappropriate on younger chldren's programming.

Doesnt look too bad.

One person on my friends list plays L4D2 anyway, not as big as I thought it would be.

What part of 'enemies VANISH when they die' don't you understand? They don't fall to the ground and fade away, they just... disappear. Instantly.

I know it can be fixed by downloading the game off Steam/Xbox LIVE, but we shouldn't have to.

Didn't Valve tell you? Every single weapon in the game is also a Zat Gun!

My advice? Move to a country that doesnt censor things like that. And POSSIBLY get a 9mm in a kids meal upgrade.
