Subject: Good/Bad Purchase? HELP

Eternally-Stimulated Slaanesh Dreadnought

I just bought the discontinued "Da Green Tide" box set for a total of $127.
This set retailed previously at $175.
It contains 100 Boys and 1 Warboss.
To purchase the same contents retail tomorrow, in light of the set being discontinued, would cost $256.80 post tax.
What can I do with approx. 1500pts of straight boys?
Should I simply feel solace in the good deal?

And why not? You now own a discontinued box. There's value in that fact alone. Besides, if you decide you don't want Orks later, you can still paint em' up "good n' propah'" and then Ebay them for some good cash. But as it stands, you've got a scary sized Orky mob going. Maybe consider some Wagons next "ter help yer' boyz get ta' killin' faster!"

20 more boyz,KFF Mek,30 lootas and 9 Kanz=Doom. anyways that list looks more like 700-750 pts. TBH. which as is will get there and krump stuff (kinda hard to kill that many models at low points level).

I would kill to get a box of green tide. Coolest box set ever. Well worth it. Also since most ork armies rely on huge numbers of boys, you can kick some serious ass with that. But first, buy a bunch of KFF big Meks. Or your pretty green boyz will be dead very soon.

Good idea? Or best idea?
You've got a hell of a start for an Ork army there. Make three 30-Ork boyz squads, and then take the stragglers and make Kommandos with them. That plus the included warboss and you've got a great footslogging army to play with.
But, for the love of god, only focus on one mob at a time. If you get excited and try to build/paint too many at once you'll get really, REALLY burned out. I have no idea how I've been able to paint ~100 Orks and their vehicles over 6 months without burning out completely. It's better to wait and have a fully painted army than to play game after game with an unpainted plastic horde that will be too intimidating to start work on.

Great idea! this is exactly what I am going to do!
I really want a CC horde list. I don't know jack about orks. How should I outfit the boys other than trying to fit as many PKs as possible to kill mech? i don't even know what a shoota is. My friend has the dex so I def. gotta give it a healthy look through.
This is a secondary army and I def. don't want to spend too much cash on em' but do I need anything else for them to be effective? I figured I could ebay some AoBR nobz and warlord to round out the list a bit. Is that necessary? Looking down the line a year or so I may want a few battle wagons. AV12, red paint, boarding blank sounds great with a core of near 100 boys.
lastly, i know the stuff orks need are thing s like waaagh banners, kustom force fields, and mad docs but since I only have one HQ should I just go Snitrot (sp.) [the kommando SC] so I can outflank from the long board edge?

Good deal.
100 orks and a warboss are the foundation of any army. Whether you want to play foot sloggers or mechanized, or fast attack; those boys can double in any of those roles, and more for proxying purposes to find out what you want to actually do, but at the end of the day, even in a fully mechanized list for say 1850, you're still going to be using 70-80 boys.

You got an excelent deal.
Boyz, after all,are the heart of any Ork army,so no matter what type of force you build up,foot slogging or mech, you have a great starting point.

I'm interested to know if you got any heavy weapons with them. Beacuse if you did you could make a tankbusta squad to boot.

I would probably make one mob of slugga/choppa boyz, and two mobs of shoota boys with 3 big shootas in each. Shoota boyz are as good shooting as they are in melee, while slugga boyz can't put out any worthwhile fire. Have the sluggas run every turn while the shootas advance and fire. All Orks are good in assault, and shoota boyz can shoot EVERYTHING before assaulting, since they've got nothing but assault weapons. Put a nob with a klaw in each unit and you're good.
As for the kommandos - give them a burna - you can probably get one in a trade here, or off a bitz site for cheap. It's a flamer that acts as a power weapon in assault if it isn't fired. That plus a power klaw nob will make a really nasty squad. Give the kommandos shootas too, and trick them out to make em look "speshul" with scopes, bayonets, and general Orky gubbinz.

How can this NOT be a good purchase?

But seriously. It's a buttload of Orks. I nearly bought the box when it was out, if only for a massive Tau v. Ork diorama I had floating in my head.

Shoota are often bought at normal price because its from the normal box set.
Slugga are often bought at way below normal price due to the insane amount we get from AOBR.
If you have the box set that allows you to make either , make them all shootas. ( or loota / burna / tank busta )

You can only put 12 Orks in a trukk - you're thinking battlewagons.
A list with 3 battlewagons (4 if one's a dedicated transport for nobz) could be pretty tough.

So apparently I actually bought 100 NOBZ and a warlord.
At first I was like OMG, jackpot! but for gaming purposes it seems for the price boys are better than nobz.
I know I can do an all Nob list with G. Thraka
Lotsa PKs, painboys, and junk but now the threat of demo. pie plates is much scarier. much more damage can be done for if i can only field 40 nobz to the 100 boys (leaving room for goodies in each)
