Inspired by the Favourte Author Thread, lets list the Authors who we don't like! The only rule is that you cannot mention C.S. Goto, firstly because it's a fundamental constant of Nature that no-one likes him, and secondly because if you do he will multilazor you up the multilazors with Necron Multilazors and LandRazors piloted by Elfdar-Hooman Hybrid Blud Rheven Spess Mahrinez! For me, I cannot stand J.K. Rowling. Yes, I have read all the books because I read the first when I was but a wee trolle and I am the annoying sort of person who doesn't like to leave things unfinished. She just took Lord of the Rings, added some Limey gakker with Bad Hair and raked in Millions.

Ok lets get it out of the way.
Stephanie Mayer? I actually didn't mind the books an awful amount, better than some of the stuff out there. Thats not saying I like them or the culture around them however. I'm just declairing my indifference.
My least favourate author is probaly Jordan or another 'celebrity' who thinks because they're 'on the telly' they need to preach at us and tell us about their life.
I can see the way the thread ends already and it depresses me :(

I mean, how can anyone like The Wheel of Time series? It's painfully long (even for me, and I read the first three Dune books in less than a week), and the cliffhangers are unbearable.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I read a lot of Scifi/Fantasy/Horror. There are great number of authors that I do not like for various reasons. But because I feel lazy I choose the late Robert Jordan. Wheel of Time is one of the few fantasy series that I stopped reading. My sentiments can be summed to phrases "enough with the side plots", "get on the with the show" and "can we please get to the Big Apocalyptic End Battle?".

I'll 3rd Robert Jordan. I got through the fourth book and realized that he was up to the ninth and all at 1000 pages. 3000 pages of Rand pouting was enough for me.

What, you didn't like all the scenes of older women paddling younger women?

Agreed! This series should have been 6 books max, if that.
Of course, since he died without finishing it... (Though he did dictate a plot line for 'how it should end', I think!)

I remember hearing a rumour that his family was looking for an author to finish the series based on the surviving notes. No idea what the status of that project is.
BrookM: I agree on Clancys later works. I lost interest when he started developing Ryan into some kind of superman ( marine-teacher-analyst-action hero-minor spy boss-big spy boss-vice-president-president ). But I actually liked The Hunt for the Red October. It is still in my collection.

From zee magic of wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wheel_of_Time#Author.27s_death_and_final_book.28s.29
Jordan had stated that the main sequence would conclude with the twelfth book, A Memory of Light. According to Forbes, Jordan had intended for it to be the final book "even if it reaches 2,000 pages."
Jordan was diagnosed with the fatal heart disease cardiac amyloidosis in December 2005, and while he intended to finish at least A Memory of Light even if the "worse comes to worst," he made preparations in case he was not able to complete the book: "I'm getting out notes, so if the worst actually happens, someone could finish A Memory of Light and have it end the way I want it to end."
With Jordan's death on 16 September 2007, the conclusion of the series was in question. On December 7 of that year the publisher Tor Books announced that fantasy author Brandon Sanderson was to finish A Memory of Light. Sanderson, a long time fan of the series, was chosen by Jordan's widow Harriet McDougal partly because she liked Sanderson's novels and partly because of a eulogy he had written for Jordan.
On 30 March 2009 Tor Books announced that the A Memory of Light would be split into three volumes, the first of which, The Gathering Storm, was released on October 27, 2009. The second book of the trilogy is titled Towers of Midnight and is expected to be published in late 2010. The title of this book was chosen by Brandon Sanderson. The final book of the series uses the title of what Jordan thought would be the final book of the series, A Memory of Light. The book is tentatively scheduled to be published in late 2011.

Memoirs can be interesting in that they might reveal what the president or person
was thinking at the time of what they did or did not do, but more importantly, you
might see what they THINK they were thinking or what they want you to think.

Also, teaching teens/tweens that suicide attempts make your boyfriend who dumped you for (what I assume was a good reason) get back together with you, is in my books a big no-no.

Chomsky is a very talented linguist, but an abysmal political scientist.
He doesn't know how to argue from evidence. Instead he presents evidence, while deriving those conclusions which he has arrived at through preconception; framing the debate without actually paying attention to what his frame indicates.
Howard Zinn is far worse, but essentially the same.

Woah, woah, woah... Bwahaha, I had a feeling you were going to have something to say about some of my choices I rejected Rousseau's ideas and writings some time ago after reading The Social Contract. While some of his stuff I find mildly amusing, most of it I find to be idiotic bull twinkie. Voltaire, despite the fact that I thought Candid was a fairly good read, tends to annoy me. Even though I wholeheartedly agree with his hostility toward democracy and approval of a monarch, I find his writing style to be somewhat boring. I thought that Kirkegaard, Nietszche, Pascal and Hume were all much better writers. I know that everyone loves Voltaire's wit, but I just never cared for his style myself...
