Charles Darwin's seminal work, On the Origin of Species, was published 150 years ago today. This should be a great cause for celebration for us all.
We are aware that both Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin were born on the same day, in the same year, February 12, 1809. In many people's views, that day in 1809 was a fine day for humanity because Lincoln became the great emancipator of the slaves in America, and Darwin became the great emancipator of the human mind, they both deserve to be celebrated. Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection, published November 24, 1859 freed the human mind from superstition, thus permitting the interpretation of scientific data through the rational lens of naturalism instead of through the lens of theology.
I shall of course be raising a glass to Mr Darwin today. And also i wonder, with all this talk of great books below, how come nobody mentioned good old Chuck Darwin?!

Visited Charles Darwins House this year, way off the beaten track but well worth the visit either a National Trust or English heritage property cant remember which.
It all seems so simple yet strikingly complex at the same time, much like nature itself i suppose.

I dunno, i guess it depends on their age at the time cause whenever i think of Dawrin i think of the auld guy with the beard on the back of British banknote.
Lincoln led an army of men so i presume he would train himself like a soldier would.. so im inclined to say Lincolm.
But Darwin was a naturalist, so i guess he would like to take care of himself too, and i bet he knew alot about anatomy, so he would know where to strike you!
Thats a hard one. Maybe we can recreate it using 40k rules. Lincoln can be Guardsman Marbo and Darwin would make a good farseer.. you know.. the secrets of life and all that gubbins.

Lincoln of course. Only Godzilla and Chuck Norris could match the power of Lincoln.
Should note Lincoln grew up poor farmer type in a genuine log cabin. He'd wale of that British wussy boy like Jackson at New Orleans.

Lincoln.
That statue.....life sized.
Only the OTS would even stand a chance against him.
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

It would have to be considerably older.

It's too bad that I can't find video of him hitting Santi from last week, where he hits him so hard that he spins him 360 midair. Giving them armor just makes them want to hit harder.

Yep, good old Darwin. Despite being religious, I find the theory of evolution perfectly rational (although I don't believe it just... happened out of the blue).
Happy birthday, Darwin.
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
I bet no rugby player could hit someone hard enough to crack ribs even through body armor.
--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

You do know that Darwin was a Devout Catholic and his discovery didnt change his opinion about god at all.
Also i find your saying "Free from superstition" offensive as a catholic.

Mr Rogers of course!

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. Garret, the Catholic Church has accepted Evolution.
On October 22nd 1996 Pope John Paul the second updated the Church's position to accept the evolution of the human body. And a great many Catholics have accepted it as a fact, though many wish to believe that it was God that started the whole process off.
Secondly. Darwin was not a "devout" Catholic. And his discovery certainly did change his opinion. And before you even start with the unmitigated garbage that is about to follow, quoting Kent Hovind, Kurt Cameron or Ray Comfort or perhaps reputable scientists you might want to quote mine, neither was he a nazi, a fan of the slave trade or an imbecile.
Thirdly, the words "free from superstition" Are offensive? In what way? If you believe in thigs that have no evidence for them then by definition it is superstition.
I find many many things offensive. Doesnt mean i dont think we should be allowed to talk about it though.
The USA is a "free speech zone" so get used to it.

I respect and admire Charles Darwin greatly as i have a real interest in biology, thats all.
I did not wish to offend you, but in my view, he was the first guy who made a naturalistic theory viable, and as such, we no longer simply had to "speculate" about our origins. That is what i mean by "superstition" ie speculation or guessing over looking for clues and evidence.
I apologise if this upset you, that wasnt my intent.

It ok. I just get a little heated when i think some one is attacking religion. I should be apoligising. Sorry.
