I've got carrot holding Sam, but I don't have metal Bill. Guess I'll be in for that at least. Maybe the Morannon Orcs too if they're a reasonable price.

Got a genuine snort of laughter out of me with that one.
GW are missing a trick not using that.

Yeah, joking aside, I'm guessing that a new edition will drop around December 2027 to coincide with The Hunt For Gollum.

Given I've played more of the last edition than the current one since its release a new edition would have to be pretty spectacular for me to pick up.

MTO next week:

Including a couple of bits not mentioned before in Rivendell Gandalf and the casualties set.

I wouldn't mind getting Sam and Bill, if only to get Bill cheaper than the FW version. Wouldn't mind having Arwen with Frodo either, although I'm not really planning to run that list. None of the rest of it interests me whatsoever.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Grrr. I was hoping to get away with just a cheap MTO this time around, Sam/Bill and the Morannons. Now I gotta throw the casualties in too and you can bet your arse they won't be sensibly priced.

I'll get Sam and Bill, as that Sam particularly is a pain in the ass to find. I'll probably get a set of the casualties, as it's one of the few parts of the range i've never owned.

The release MUST be Braga, Captain of the Laketown Guard. That's all that's left, right?

Lot of other models missing tbh.

It would be nice to see more plastic heroes redone, from Boromir to Sauron. Hard to see, I know.

Couple of things I'd like to see in plastic. Sauron would be nice. A new plastic Fellowship would be good to see, as would a pack of plastic Ringwraiths.

There are a lot of heroes, from the trilogy too, that are waiting for a plastic kit. Where is Boromir of the White Tower? Sauron? Galadriel? Arwen? Bard? Endless possibilities.

Okay, now there is a pleasant surprise! I wasn't expecting these two until late 2027...

Very happy about this.

I'm quite sure you need an additional model to play the The Bravery of Master Samwise scenario.

Hopefully they'll have a plastic kit for Sam, Frodo & Gollum in Emyn Muil.

Maybe even a box of plastic Dead Marsh Spectres?

I don't think we'll see another plastic Gollum now. It feels like they've been stealth releasing characters like the Fellowship in other kits. The Three Hunters, Merry and Pippin with Treebeard, Gollum now. Frodo and Sam are going to come in some other multi-kit in the future. I'd almost guarantee it.

That's a great sculpt (and paintjob), really brought her to life. Don't love the posing on the big rocks, but otherwise pretty fantastic.

... and Sam already exists in plastic (the fellowship kit, even though it would be nice to see a NEW fellowship plastic kit).

The idea that I will never have to assemble the metal Shelob I've had sitting here since early Covid fills me with joy, even if I am not a fan of the strategic rock.

Same!

My brother brought home the ROTK rule book from a car boot sale a few years ago and immediately I was overjoyed with all the rules to run not only the game but the Shelob scenario. I'm just wondering if the new journal will have a scenario for the trio avoiding the Easterlings at the Blackgate...

That's a pretty great miniature. I'll have to wait and see what the price looks like - I've got a toy tarantula that I've been planning to use for Shelob but if this kit is vaguely reasonably priced I'll pick it up, because I don't actually have a miniature for Gollum yet and I do really like that Shelob. Hope she's still on a 60mm base though!

I think the rock actually works in this case since IIRC in the movie she spent most of her time attacking from above until Sam stabbed her from below, and the added height helps with that without having her either rearing up or just standing flat on a base.

Far King Hell. That's bloody GLORIOUS!

I didn't have Shelob on my list, but what an upgrade that is! From the looks of it, I'm guessing an 80mm base? Which I'm not sad about. Old Shelob needs a big base. Her metal model I felt was actually a touch too small. And for once an entirely appropriate use of tactical rocks.
A proper, menacing looking lumpy old unspeakable horror she is!

Now for as great as Shelob is, can we just focus our attention on Gollum for a second. What the hell is going on there? Terrible paintjob from the studio. The hair is a hopeless imitation of the characters actual (lack of) hair and the face is.... way off. Lets not even get started on the ankle that they couldn't be bothered gap filling.

I shudder to think of what the price might be.

Shelob is a great mini, Gollum sadly suffers from that weird 3d sculpted effect I find myself disliking a lot of new miniatures for (they have this weird 'samey' looking uncanny valley effect to my eye). Gollum didn't need a new sculpt either, as the old metal ones are pretty iconic. And to leave out Sam from the kit seems...an oversight and makes it feel unfinished.

The only way I'd feel that this kit was 'complete' is if we get a new orc character kit, with a few new orcs + Sam along side this release as well.

I'm not against them doing something new with these books/releases rather than rehashing the same old releases time and time again, but its also strange that they are also passing over doing things like a new fellowship kit, or a new orc kit similar to recent starter box kits, for a 'one off' monster kit and still rehashing/replacing a Gollum model that is in wide circulation.

As I mentioned earlier, they've already essentially done a new Fellowship. They're just scattered among other kits.
