What music has reduced you to tears? (or almost has )

What music has done more than provide a good beat and got you groovin'?

What music has moved your soul? What music have you held to, embraced to and become lost in?

My top two are:
-Barber: Adagio for Strings
-Debussy: Claire de lune

Warning: This thread is supposed to be meaningful. Please keep your posts relatively serious.

Well, I'm an arrogant existential nihilist (most of the time) so I love Don't Stop by InnerPartySystem.

Other hits include:

Revolution, by the Beatles. Christ, I hate the Beatles so much.

All Along the Watchtower, by Bob Dylan. Though I prefer Joker and the Thief by Wolfmother. Credit where credit is due, and all that.

Mercy Me, by Alkaline Trio. Emo quota, plus a relative was in the band.

Sunday Morning, by K-OS. Just listen.

Calm Like a Bomb, by Rage Against the Machine. Tattooed on my shoulder.

Better, by Regina Spektor. Just amazing.

City of Lables, by Pelican. Love the atmosphere it gives to my city.

Sunn 0))) - Why Dost Thou Hide Thyself In Cloud?

Was part of a live show they did in Bergen Cathedral in Bergen, Norway. They had Attila Csihar from Mayhem on vocals and Steve Moore from Earth on the Cathedrals Grand Organ. I know Sunn 0)))'s music tends to be very GRIMM and dark, but this song is just so desperate and sad, it's like Attila's at the end of the line and there is no hope.

Really beautiful though

The Blood of Cu Chulainn by Mychael and Jeff Danna

Agree about USSR anthem, too, but not human enough to elicit very strong response as with above pieces.

And, for the more contemporary . . .

Finally (for now) this . . .

. . . is to my ears a nearly perfect piece of music.

I should note, the words--in both cases--are very important to my appreciation of these pieces.

When I first heard Metallica, it was Master of Puppets. At the time, I was listening to crap like Dokken and Raven, just ordinary hair-band hard rock because it was all there was on the radio. I had to listen to the entire record with the headphones on a good ten times before I got over being stunned by how awesome it was. Within a year I'd also discovered Slayer's Reign In Blood, which I insisted on playing so much that I nearly alienated all my friends. They are still two of my top ten favorite pieces of music. The next big revelation was Morbid Angel, my first exposure to death metal. It was the first specific style of music that truly spoke to my inner emotional turmoil and granted me a release of the stress that I had allowed to build up for so long.

A beautiful poem turned into a beautiful song by the incomparable Luke Kelly:

This one is awesome once it gets going at about 3:07:

But this gets me every time:

I know it's a hymn, but it's beatiful and speaks to the English sense of national destiny. The words are amazing:

'And did those feet in ancient time walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God on England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the countenance divine shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here among these dark Satanic Mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight, nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
till we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant Land.

The 'chariot of fire' bit always make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

@Albatross: That Holst piece is just another football anthem you tommies sing annually at your "Proms," namely, I Vow To Thee My Country. (Of course, it was Jupiter first, but it is emblazoned into your luke-warmly passionate and easily embarrassed Union Flag hearts as the patriotic song first and foremost, I reckon.)

Problem with our National Anthem is men/women who sound like a vacuum cleaner or a cat being skinned alive singing it during sporting events.

When sung by the right person it's very inspiring. Of course being a Patriot I'm a little biased.

Bugs the gak out of me when people don't put their hand over their heart and take their hats off during it's singing.

The one song I really, really enjoy listening to is "Silent Night." I actually prefer listening to it in German. I had to learn the lyrics in German back in Sunday School for the Christmas play one year. 25 years later though and I can only sing one line of it without my tongue getting twisted around itself.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.”
