Goblins may be small, cowardly, and pathetic. But lets be honest, the comedy of these fellows makes them impossible not to love. But what race do you think these little fellows could best imitate?
Alot of us have seen gobbotanina ( http://www.animosity.pl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=503) , which is a superb example of my idea, but what else do you think this little green under dogs could do?
Vote for your army of choice, List some ideas, fluff, conversions, have a hay day. A goblin on lives once.

The Gobbos can imitate almost anything they want, silly little buggers.
It'd be tough to imitate Beastmen and Skaven, however, as both factions are too radically different (Skaven have all this advanced Tech, and Beastment are big and stupid)

I could see Goblins imitating:
Beasts of Chaos: Depends on the new Beastmen book. If the rumors are true, they'd basically be an Ungor-heavy army.
Vampires. Either by having somehow become vampiric themselves (alright, much less likely than the Orc instance in a WD), or some sort of "Vampire plans to remove Skaven, uses Goblins as tool knowing that they'll get themselves killed shortly" thing.
Empire is possible, provided you lay off the war machines. While most goblins are chaotic, there are a few instances in-fluff of Goblins getting their act together. Biggest problem would be the high WS being hard to explain fluff-wise.
Bretonia is possible, just like Empire, with the same problem (how to explain the high WS). Best I can come up with is take mostly peasants with as few knights as possible. Never pray before the game. No Damsels, outside maybe a specifically scroll-caddy "Damsel".
Skaven can work, if you do a predominantly Slave / Clanrat list. You'd have to take away practically all their special weapons / mage choices, though, so it isn't exactly worthwhile (only mage I'd say you could take is an Engineer, saying the "Warplighting" is a more powerful Waaagh! missile but risking it exploding in the shaman's face).
Wood Elves, I can't really see the Goblins pulling off. Too many "elite" troops.
Dwarves kinda works if you assume the -1 movement is from weighing themselves down so much it slows 'em, but then you have the issue of - again - high weapon skills averages in the arm, and are limiting yourself to just the Bolt Thrower war machines / maybe quarreler Dwarves.
Ogres can sorta be done, it'd require a lot of work though. Basically, the Goblins are "herding" a lot of extremely smart (but somehow highly weakened) trolls and the liking into battle. The Tyrant "General" is really just a super tough troll that they take inspiration from as it wades through the enemy. Big stretch to get it working, though. Can't even think of a way to justify large numbers of trolls losing regeneration.
Tomb Kings, I can't really come up with an explanation for. Goblin loots found books in vaults, eventually had themselves (crudely) mummified by "loyal" gobbos after death?

For VC i had the idea of a lone gobbo stumbling upon a dead necromancers book. For the Vampire himself, a resurected squig out to help coup for the stat difference. Grave gaurd, merely some dead orks with a goblin leading them.
The stats arnt such a worry, mainly aesthetics with a little fluff.
Ditto on the wood elvs, thought they might make interesting savage goblins, but i just cant explain away the 30" lethal shot bows.
Its not like brets where a little fungus beer, and angry wolf, and some stolen armor cant explain away.
i like the empire, especially the idea of ramshackle cannons, grot encouraged steam tank, and some goblin knights, but i just cant explain away the core too well, sheilds and swords just dont make swordsmen.

I don't know the wood elves enough to know which unit wouldn't match which and why, but I like the idea of the little green guys as tree fairies and such. Like I said, I don't know if it's doable, but the consensus seems to be a very slim "maybe, but probably not".
The mummies could be some curse that was a trap for who ever stumbled upon the tomb, enslaving them to the mummy within as undead goblin attendants.
And I think the ogres would be better explained as squiggoths or something, controlled by the goblins but to ferocious to field in large groups.
I think the lack of a high WS could be made up for in numbers, eh? or does that miss the point?
Skaven wouldn't be too hard, either, with a lot of clan rats and slaves as your normal gobos. But what about Plague Monks as night goblins and Censor Bearers as Fanatics? And a catapult that fires lumps or warpstone?
I think they really can do anything, but I think that's one of the features of most games, right? there has to be some medium, even if there are many extremes... right?

Currently working on a Gobbo-Empire right now.
I have 6 x outriders, 6 x gobbo knights w/lances riding squigs, and 6 x gobbo knights w/great weapons. I have most the pieces for a unit of 6 x pistoliers as well. On the table is a mortar that fires gobbos/squigs being pieced together.
