My cousin plays necrons and has a fairly good sized army (somewhere around 1000 points) I dont know all of his list, but it goes something like this:

1 Necron Lord w/ resurrection orb
3x10 Necron Warriors
2x3 destroyers
1 monolith

I have no clue about necrons or what makes their list. So can some cron players reply and tell me what is a good upgrade to his list? (hopefully GOOD necron players)

The best thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's far too late to stop reading it.

Immortals?

If that not, more warriors?

Warriors seem to be the cardinal unit of Necrons. Just march forward with a bunch of them and you'll steamroll through people.

How much you willing to spend?

I'd recommend a monolith or a C'tan personally...

Otherwise, I would say destroyers but I think I'd lean towards some thing more interesting...

Monolith is a good buy, so is a squad of Flayed Ones (5-7 of em). Immortals are great troops, but they're clocking in at 60 US for five of them. Destroyer Lord is insane with the right gear as well.

Tombworld El'Lahaun 2500pts
Hive Fleet Vestis 5000pts
Disciples of Caliban 2000pts
Crimson Fist 2000pts
World Eaters 1850pts
Angels Encarmine 1850pts
Iron Hospitalers 1850 pts (Black Templar Successor)
Sons of Medusa 1850pts
Tartarus IXth Renegade Legion 2500pts

In the Webway.

Squad of immortals/flayed ones, things like that. Or mithril silver paint, necron players use a lot of that.

If you cant decide just get him some GW vouchers.

A Battleforce box. It's got Warriors and Destroyers, the units you need and the units you want. It's also a nice box shape for wrapping. If he doesn't have three Monoliths yet, that's another nice thing to get. Immortals aren't bad either.

I would NOT get him Wraiths, Flayed Ones, or Pariahs, unless you KNOW he likes any of those units. A lot of people think they're really bad. Personally I like Wraiths and Flayed Ones on occasion, but that's another discussion...

I heard that, Aduro. Most people don't know how to play necrons...even necron players. It's not quite as simple as it looks, and quite frankly, Wraiths and Flayed Ones are excellent units.

A lot of peoples are still stuck in 4th ed mentalities, but the necrons have to played differently now to win.

So far, so good.

As for the price...under $40 US

So thats alot of stuff that he can get. But seriously...I'm playing against him so I don't want to get him anything too good if you know what I mean...

But yeah, he's still in the 'omg, look at all the pretty colors I can put on him!' phase, but wraiths seem like a good idea at the time.

I play Necrons and i must say heavy destroyers. Under the new rule set the gauss rule isn't as useful. Now in order for a warrior to destryoy a vehicle you need a ton of glancing hits, weapon destroyed, and immobilized results to destroy enemy vehicles. The monolith isn't very effective as a tank hunter (in my opinion) so some tank hunting capacity would do well.

Personally the only C'tan i would ever consider fielding is the Deciever, but even then, the chances of me ever doing that are low. I see a C'tan as a major point sink and the only thing that makes it semi durable is its high toughness. Although snipers no longer hit on a 2+ all the time, a sniper will still wound on a 4+. And the C'tan's 4+ invulnerable wont stop much. Now that Melta weapons and their likeness are much more common (at least where i play), the weapons that can injure a C'tan are much more commonplace and its easier than ever to kill them. So i guess its really up to your friends judgment whether or not he wants to field it, because in the right circumstances they can be game changing units But in some circumstances I would rather take the monolith and some warriors, I personally think its a better use of around 400 points.

I would also consider something akin to a gift card because god knows whats going to change when the new codex arrives.

Crap, or not crap (usually not), C'tan are COOL and very characterful! They would be great fun to play with and interesting to paint, and not too expensive. So I stand by what I said,

GET HIM A C'TAN!

The Nightbringer is effectively useless, in the case of an army that likes to stand by the board edge and keep ranged fire going, a Deciever can be very useful. With it you can make squads fall back off the table edge (or just pin them, but where's the fun in that?). True, they aren't very expensive and you can do some amazing stuff painting them, but i just get the feeling they will get nerfed when the new codex comes around.

Give him some Tomb Spiders: they are cheap and useful for repairing and close-combat.
Or give him flayed-ones, or inmortals.
You choose, all Necrons are cool.

Holy crap I just wrote almost 2 pages about what not to get and found out pretty much nothing except the pages, so to thin it down, get a monolith, warriors, destroyers or heavy destroyers, maybe the tomb spyder or more lords. thats about it, flayed ones, pariahs are a waste of time, you need atleast three wraiths to make them effective. And only get a C'tan god if you want him to power sink his points, just bring a lascannon or krak missle crew and the C'tan god will go down faster then a lead weight. And nothing you can him will be good, since you probably have a better army.

Actually for christmas get him a new codex, how about those space wolves?

This is good.... isn't it?

I love the competitive buying for your friend. lol

I want to get him something good, but not good against me, ... >.> lol

This just cracks me up. I agree with, another Lord, Destroyers/Heavy Destroyers and/or Monolith.

Cheers!

getting bored....?

HEAVY DESTROYERS!!! Woot!

He's getting 2 and hes liking it.
*hehe... railgun+ destroyer=spare parts. yay!*
but the evil plans will come later. Heavy destroyers seem like a good option for him and hopefully he'll appreciate them. and if he doesn't...meh...I'll still table him

I recieved some H. Destroyers last Christmas and they are cool. I hadnt played yet but I liked the idea of a unit that was on skimmer bodies with a heavy weapon. H. Destroyers are like pitchers for holding water, you never buy it for yourself but you need one.

Personally I would have gone with either of the C'Tan as they are cool personality figs in an army lacking charachters. The H. Destroyers are a nice choice and not many Cron players have them.
