Finally ordered a new PC. Dude I'm getting a Dell.

I got the base model XPS 9000 and intend to upgrade as I need it but I think for now it should be good for most games out there. So, what's out there? I'm sure I will be picking up DOW2. I keep hearing about Crysis but you apparently need a mega system for that and I don't wanna drop another $500 in upgrades at the moment for 1 game.

I did the WoW thing already on my Mac. It was fun while it lasted but I just hate the endgame and that's all anyone cares about in WoW. For me the fun part was leveling up, but been there done that.

I'll be checking out DOW2 for sure. Always wanted to play the original one but they never made a mac version. I heard Borderlands was good but I think if I get that I'd rather get it for the PS3. I like console gaming a lot better so the PC will be for games that you need a PC for

I guess I'll start with DOW2 and take it from there. I was looking at the Crysis website last night and it looks pretty cool, but I kept hearing that you really need a killer system for it. I'll have an i7 with 3 gigs of ram and an average video card to start with and i don't wanna go drop $500 in upgrades right off the bat. maybe I'll download a demo when I get my new PC and see how it is.

You only need a killer system by 3 years ago's standards. Now almost anything can play Crysis. Its an ok game. There are plenty of great games on PC. Stay away from most of the console ported crap. If it was on a console it will probably be gak. Few exeptions are Dragon Age and Cronicles of Riddick. Both great games. Anything else I would avoid.

Just so you know. You NEED a PC for Dragon Age. The reason I say that is the console version is gak! They had to cut the size of the game down from 15GB to th 8GB that will fit on the disk and they did that by cutting animations, face effects, texture quality and all sorts of things. Not to mention the controls are way better on the PC. You can't even use the old school isometric camera view on the console version meaning you have to play from the shoulder of each character in your party and can't do the top down view (like Diablo, Baldur's Gate, etc) that is so much better for the tactical fights and situations you get yourself into. So don't fall into the trap of thinking consoles are beter and buying games for them over the PC version simply because it exists. Thats only a good assumption for sports games and racing/flight games (assuming you don't have proper flight sticks for your PC already in which case the game pad is better tha mouse and keyboard) if its an RPG, FPS or RTS best take the PC version.

Dragon Age is a RPG right? If so I might skip it. I like RPG games but to me they end up being big time sinks and I don't have a ton of spare time I usually go for shooters or RTS games. Besides I miss the old fashioned RPGs, like Wizardry. i'm old...

Dragon Age isn't bad, but the combat system sucks. Unless you play a Wizard (Where you have to aim all of your AOE spells) you will get bored quickly. Sure, the story isn't bad, but the gameplay just...doesn't work well.

Incidentally, I also have to give a shoutout for Team Fortress 2. For the next few days, it is FREE to play online during the WAR! update (Soldier vs. Demoman). Give it a try now, while you can for free. You might even be able to get it for cheap, since Valve seems to drop the price during their update weekends. I'd also recommend Half-Life 2 and its two expansions (Episode 1 and 2). Very fun game, and a lot of strategy/platforming in first person for a shooter. Plus, the gravity gun kicks serious ass.

Also, Portal. Trust me on this one, you will get addicted to Portal for its amazing puzzles. It's a short game, but there are literally dozens of fanmade levels out there if you take the time to look for 'em. Plus, you can check out a very fun prequel to the game called Portal: Prelude. Not really official, but extremely well-made.

Oh, and if you enjoy DoW2, you might want to look into the original DoW series, especially Dark Crusade and Soulstorm. Very fun games, and since the campaign is somewhat repetitive (Unless you're on Hard, you can basically use the same strategies for every race) it's easy to go in and play a game or two before quitting out for a while.

Hope this helped!

A good shooter game would be Republic Commando, the campaigns only about 10 hours long start to finish and the multiplayer can get a few aimbot hackers on occasion, but it makes up for this by having a seriously kick ass single-player mode and some awesome weaponry. (who wouldn't want to use a geonosian elite beam weapon?)
Even if you don't like star wars the game is far enough removed from it (i.e no jedi) that it isn't really a problem.

As far as the game goes, you play as an Elite Commando (a Null ARC trooper i think) of the Republic in charge of a 4 man (including yourself) team of other commandos. The Campaign is really absorbing and the characters are funny and realistic. Overall, its a great game and I would highly reccomend it.

Yeah, the total war series rocks, but I would stick to the main game if you get Rome: Total War, the expansions aren't that good IMO. Medival 2 TW is excellent, and so are the expansions, espescially the Americas expansion, but M2TW gold comes with all of them and is a fantastic buy.

Thanks. I think I'm gonna start with DOW2 just because it's 40k. my PC is arriving today finally! It's a Dell XPS 9000. The video card is bottom of the barrel it's a ATI 4350 or something like that, so I'll be swapping that for a more high end one, will prolly spend around $2-300. Might wait till tax return time for that though. I just picked up a 23" monitor at best buy too

hardware question.... it's got integrated sound on the motherboard.. is that ok or do I want a sound blaster card or something?
